Introduction

This repository contains the code presented as part of a talk I gave at DjangoCon 2015 in Austin, TX. You may also refer to the video and slides.

Installation

Install the python dependencies:

mkvirtualenv myenv
workon myenv
pip install -r requirements.txt

Install the node dependencies:

npm install

Initialize the database:

python manage.py migrate
python manage.py initial_photos

Compile the Javascript:

node_modules/webpack/bin/webpack.js -d

Execution

To run the Django server:

workon myenv
python manage.py runserver 0.0.0.0:8000

To run the Node server:

node react-server.js

Then you may check out the 3 different versions:

• http://localhost:8000/ajax/
• http://localhost:8000/serialized/
• http://localhost:8000/pre-rendered/

webpack Error: Cannot resolve module 'jQuery'

I'm getting the following errors when running webpack.

ERROR in ./photos/static/js/main.js
Module not found: Error: Cannot resolve module 'jQuery' in /home/bernd/Downloads/django-react-djangocon2015-master/photos/static/js
@ ./photos/static/js/main.js 27:14-31

ERROR in ./photos/static/js/store.js
Module not found: Error: Cannot resolve module 'jQuery' in /home/bernd/Downloads/django-react-djangocon2015-master/photos/static/js
@ ./photos/static/js/store.js 29:14-31

BTW: Have you looked into more modern alternatives to jquery ajax?
