eurkey-mac's Introduction

EurKEY-Mac

The Keyboard Layout for Europeans, Coders and Translators - Version for Mac OS X.

This is a port of the EurKEY Keyboard layout, which features a QWERTY baseline layout (=good access to braces etc.) with quick access to commonly used accented characters and Umlauts.

Status: The whole layout should be mapped now. Please report if you find any missing characters.

Install

Copy the two files EurKEY.keylayout and EurKEY.icns to your library, either system-wide (/Library/Keyboard Layouts) or for your local user (~/Library/Keyboard Layouts). A system-wide installation is preferred to ensure the layout is available to all applications. (See also this Superuser answer.) For the changes to take effect a restart is required.

How to use the Keyboard

After the restart go to System Settings > Keyboard > Edit > + and search for EurKEY v1.2. After adding the layout select its symbol from the menu bar icon.

License

The Layout itself is licensed under GPLv3. The EU flag icon is taken from Iconspedia, created by Alpak and licensed under CC

eurkey-mac's Issues

Version 1.3

The 1.3 version of the EURkey layout was published as documented in the changelog. Are there plans to port the changes made there into this project?

I have been using this for more than a year now and it is a complete and working keyboard layout, I really enjoy it. However, the addition of checkmarks in v1.3 is intriguing to me.

all the best,
Vincent

Layout does not work on MS Office products

Hello,

this is more a cry for help than a bug report, but I wasn't sure where to put it.

Thanks for creating the EurKEY-Mac adaption, it is great. Unfortunately, the MS Office product suite simply ignores the layout, and I have no clue on how to use the layout in powerpoint, word, Outlook, OneNote, ...

I installed the layout in my system settings just fine, and it works within the browser, terminal, IDE, ... But once I open an MS Office product, the input switcher in my status bar jumps back to the default layout that was shipped with my Mac. And if I try to choose EurKEY, I simply can't, clicking it does not make any difference at all.

I would appreciate any pointers, on how to resolve this.

Producing a dash

I can't figure out how to type a dash character () with the EurKEY v1.2 layout. Is this possible?

ANSI-DE layout support

Hey @jonasdiemer, first of all thanks for your work. It's awesome.

I was wondering if it is possible to swap the "y" and "z" keys in order to kind of support a german layout?

Right now I use EurKEY + Karabiner to achieve this. But it would be nice to get rid of Karabiner, since for me the only thing it does is to swap this keys.

What do you think?

weird issue with ß

hey,

I guess the issue is somewhere on my side, but maybe you have any clue what could be wrong, i'm completely out of ideas.

the issue:
everything works, except ß. the s-key is fine, the option-key is fine.
pressing option + asdf results in äðè.

thanks for your help!

Seems not to work with MacOS Sierra

The layout does not appear in the select list in Mac OS Sierra 10.12.2 after proceeding according to the README. Any ideas how to make it work?

Not able to get characters like ∑ or ∆ although they are defined in the keylayout file

I don't get how to use keyMap (index 6), which includes some unique characters not found in any other keyMap. For example ∑ or ∆.

I can see those characters within the keyboard overview (see attached image) when I press alt/option + cmd. Problem with cmd key is, that it will execute shortcuts on system level (closing applications and stuff).

Specified modifier keys, somewhere around line 35 of the keylayout file:
<keyMapSelect mapIndex="6"> <modifier keys="caps? anyOption command"/> </keyMapSelect>
