It seems the es modules build is broken. It outputs packages in the commonJS format.
This patch fixes that: https://gist.github.com/rdig/e50501858ebc875341d8b730ae4dab70
Please add it in when working on this PR.

Let's also add a prepublish hook to check and build the necessary files to publish it to npm
