In order to keep a port reserved with EPMD, you literally "just open a socket". If you close that socket, the port reservation disappears, so we've got a function that just opens a socket and then loops forever at the end.

I feel like I should be able to do something like forever $ do return (), but that is not the answer, since it breaks everything when I do that.
