ha-config's Introduction

Home Assistant Configuration

Home Assistant is a super cool open source home automation platform. This repository contains the configuration I run at my house.

Interacting w/ the house

  • Walk around. Carry your phone with you. Observe sensors try to do the right thing.
  • Use Siri when they don't.

ha-config's Issues

reduce friction of updates

  • run sync-components if its updated in a PR
  • update unique hash at end of static asset url if updated
  • enable auto-merge on HA updates if they pass CI

Guest mode feedback

After staying over for a few days, had some random comments.

Security alarm went off when I was leaving at stupid-o-clock. Not sure if that can be automated around, or if not, have a user-servicable way to do it (Alexa? a physical button?)

In the guest bathroom, the motion detector required you to be quite a bit in before it picks you up. I tended to turn on the light before that point. Maybe angle it more towards the door? I was also thinking you could mark the position with tape for reference, so it can be easily put back.

For the office, I sat in there for a call before the rest of the household was up, and the lights in there were defaulted to pretty dim, and I had to turn it up to take the call and to read other stuff. I'm not sure what the desired behavior would be, but I think coming on with the 'normal' brightness would be alright.

new phone

  • migrate Jesse's notifications / presence updates to iPhoneX

School nights

On weeknights, dim the lights and turn down the speakers in the great room gradually to encourage us to go to bed.

Fix vera devices

All vera devices have been renumbered thanks to a bug and a support interaction:

We ran some tests on the device and uploaded previous back up files to the system.

It seems the latest backups had a wrong configuration that made the controller having an incorrect Z-wave role. That is what caused the situation when the z-wave chip went into inclusion mode.

The only thing we could do to solve this issue and keep as much as possible of your configuration was to upload an older backup file to the system. It was either that or re-add all of the devices from scratch.

You will notice the rooms and scenes are missing. You would need to reconfigure them.

Also, some of the devices might need some time to configure or won't communicate properly. In this case, the best option is to exclude them from the controller and re-add them again.

You should be able to add new devices now without the controller losing the devices or rebooting.

Keep an eye on the controller's performance and let us know any questions or concerns.

  • attempt to add couch lamp right now that the network should be fixed
  • configure all devices
  • update all names
  • restart home assistant and let it pull in config
  • update entities, clear out old ones
  • remove all trailing numbers from entity ids
  • update config

Memory leak

Possibly correlated with:

  • phantomjs?
  • increased use of camera proxy?

roomba not working
