gutenberg-bookshop's Issues

Refactor the Scenes/Codebase

The current project is a bit spaghetti-ish, with the codebase having unnecessary dependencies and lots of violations of the Single Responsibility Principle. Refactor the scripts so related code is all tidy and in one place, then start splitting the main scene into more reasonable chunks.

Also, try to follow best practices for GDScript/Godot, looking at the following resources:

This'll probably need to be split further into smaller tasks.

Add a Chimney Outside

Add a small metal chimney/pipe outside the bookshop for the fire's smoke to go outside (should make the scene a little bit more homey/interesting)

Examples:

Add Lights to Scenery House Windows

Currently, all the cutout-style background houses have dark windows; it might be interesting to add 1-2 windows that have the lights on in the windows (i.e. have emissive materials on).

Add a Computer (or Bookkeeper?) to Look Up Books

Add an in-game, searchable computer (or a librarian/bookkeeper) so the player can look up where a particular book is, or can search for Project Gutenberg books that aren't in the ~3000 currently in the shop. This is another stretch, but'd be nice to add further on.

Add a Pause Menu

Slightly important.

Probably will be a very simple affair with just a play button and a question-mark style-help button, but it should still be done eventually.

Add the Ability to read Notes

Besides just reading books, I'd also like for the player to be able to read notes/view other pieces of text on the HUD; this should ideally use the existing GUI system, which may require some refactoring first.

Decorate the Back Hallway

The back hallway seems like it's aching for a barrel or some other small, interesting items to go there and make it feel less barren; throwing a few items there would be a nice, low-priority thing to do.

Make a README

Almost certainly will need to be updated as the project goes on, but something basic giving credit to assets I've used, what the project is, and how to use it wouldn't hurt.
