Description

The home page shows the layout and general idea of the color choices, materials, fittings and furnishings in a format viewable from modern web browsers (Chrome and Edge have been tested). SweetHome 3D Home Plan contains the native drawing format, available from the Github project site.

Installation

See Third party notices for the free and open source software required to view/edit the Home Plan and CAD drawings.

Build PDF and HTML5

The Makefile builds printable PDF's and local HTML5 files with a javascript viewer of the Sweet Home 3D plan. A Sweet Home 3D plugin is required to generate the javascript viewer. See Third Party Notices for information about downloading the plugin. Refer to the Makefile for build software.

The pdf defaults to KOMA-Script scrartcl, specified in Richland_Prefab_2BR.mdpp YAML meta-data.

The Makefile expects a symbolic link in the local directory to a Dropbox folder for remodel_richland.droppages.com. Update remodel variable in the Makefile to change the location. htmloutput, staticoutput, templates and staticobjects may also need adjusting if your static web page server has a different folder layout than droppages.com.

To be compatible with Windows 10, generate the symbolic link with something similar to the Windows cmd.exe step below. Start in the directory from which you cloned this repository.

Track Changes with PDF Comments

When sharing the PDF, generated by make pdf with a contractor, it is helpful to highlight changes. difftoolpdf.sh generates a PDF using PDF comments to mark changes.

Usage: difftoolpdf.sh <old> [<new>]

Old and new can be any commit reference recognized by git checkout.
E.g., difftoolpdf.sh v1.0 v1.1
If <new> is ommitted, use the current branch & commit.

Recommend tagging the commit that is shared with the contractor, e.g., git tag v1.0. Append the commit ID if the tag isn't for the current commit.

Anaconda or Miniconda

The make file relies on several tools, available through a conda environment specified in environment.yml. To create the necessary environment, isolated from system versions, environment.yml may be used to create a conda environment called Remodel.

• Install Anaconda3 or Miniconda3. Pandoc and link_filter.py were tested using Python 3; they may or may not work in Python 2.7.

• From a bash prompt, enter conda env create --file environment.yml.

• Follow the instructions in the output to conda activate Remodel.

Richland_Prefab_2BR.mdpp contains an overview of the project and defines the content for the PDF and HTML5 versions.

Shower shelves

• Add to supplied by owner:
  • Add ideas for shelves to hold shampoo bottles etc.

Schedule mover and storage for appliances and furniture.

An on-site pod for 5 - 6 weeks is best option.

Printer & laptop cabinet

• For under TV
• printer enclosure with filter & fan
• shelf for 2 laptops
• surge protector for laptops, printer, TV and DVD player
• space on top for DVD player.
• four drawer file cabinet with lock for both drawers. Preferably two drawers on each end.
• cupboard for printer paper ~10 reams
• Similar style as kitchen cabinets.

Removed stove vent

Consider retaining roof vent as attic vent to avoid roof repairs.

Wine rack

Add door to protect wine from light.

Bath faucet

Add ideas for utility faucet and shower control. They should tee so a diverter is not needed. Not obstruct shower space.

Create supplied by owner list of fixtures/furniture

Clarify which items contractor would procure.

• Clarify which circuits will be re-run v. reused.

• Check attic penetrations for wall-sconces in BR#1. They may be usable for outlets.

• Clarify what is meant by conduit (U-tube with backer?)

• Do we need Charter to run co-axial cable from weatherhead to BR#2?

• How many lights are needed in kitchen and where?

Remove wine rack & move appliance garage

• Remove wine rack. Replace with cabinet.
• Move appliance garage to counter by front kitchen window.

Insulation

• Insulate floors.
• Remove one row of siding and insulate walls.
• After remodel replace blown-in insulation in attic.

Builtin bookcase behind refrigerator

Leave wall unfinished so builtin bookcase can be added to upper half.

Put refrigerator outlet and water source in lower half of wall.

Cabinet design

• Meet with Huntwood Cabinet.
• Coordinate with flooring, backsplash and counter top. See #15 and #16.

Determine number & location kitchen ceiling lights

Cost saving ideas

• Replace toilet cabinet with off the shelf, rather than custom.
• Delay printer/file cabinet custom built.
• Delay bathroom remodel.
• Leave water heater in attic.

Toilet & vanity location

Would it be better for walking space to swap the vanity and toilet in the drawing.? The vanity protrudes into the walkway but so does the cabinet around the toilet. Is there enough room next to the shower for the wall shelves for the tooth brushes (sonic-care, so tall), hot curler box, and Braun shaver stand.

Also two people need to be able to reach the shelves at the same time, so swapping the toilet and vanity may prevent that.

Crawl Space Access

1. Cut concrete footer blocking crawl space access. Enlarge crawl space access
   and add cover/access hatch.
2. Add/replace under-floor insulation.

Irrigation Control Station

• Purchase control station.
• Wire irrigation valves.

Bathroom and shower walls

1. Replace bathroom walls and ceiling with sheetrock. Finish and paint bathroom.
2. Tile shower cabinet floor and walls.

Water Heater shed

• elevate so that deck can be added later.
• access door should be large enough to access/replace water heater
