This is a feature idea -- for given sites like reddit and facebook, you can embed news stories from the blacklisted sources. This plugin could scan those sites for entries that link to blacklisted sites, and zap them from the dom.

Not sure if this extension is still being maintained, but I think there is a privacy/security issue associated with visiting a blocked site.

When you visit, for instance bbc.co.uk, you are redirected to the following page:

http://www.nonews.info/blocked-site.html?site=http://bbc.co.uk/

The page is served insecurely over http and results in possible tracking by that site (although I am sure you aren't really interested in seeing what articles we visit ;) and/or anyone who is MITM your connection, for example if you are using public WiFi).

My suggestion, for anyone who feels like putting in a PR, is to have the "Site Blocked - Access Denied" served directly from the extension. What do you think @JDStraughan ?
