Error in FUN(X[[i]], ...) : could not find function "FUN"

Hello,

I am trying to run the Lab 5 and I get an error when I execute:

inference(y = nc$weight, x = nc$habit, est = "mean", type = "ht", null = 0, alternative = "twosided", method = "theoretical")

I get an Error:

# Error in FUN(X[[i]], ...) : could not find function "FUN"

Any idea on how to fix?

Regards

Duubar Villalobos Jimenez

Lab 0 submittal question

As a follow-on to issue #4, I am assuming we only place the "on your own" section with our answers in the Lab 0 submittal (and not the whole lab).

Please confirm if this is correct.

Thanks

startLab('Lab0') error

When I run startLab('Lab0') in R Studio, I get this error:

Warning message:
running command 'open 'C:/606/Lab0/neilhwang-intro_to_r.Rmd'' had status 34

What does this mean?

startLab() error in Linux

Hello Professor,
I'm using Ubuntu 16.04, and when running startLab('Lab2'), I get the below error:

Error in startLab("Lab2") :
The lab did not copy! Not sure why, ask your instructor.
In addition: Warning message:
In file.copy(path, dest_dir, recursive = TRUE, overwrite = FALSE) :
problem reading directory /home/neilhwang/R/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-library/3.2/DATA606/Labs/Lab2: No such file or directory

I've downloaded and brought into scope all the packages mentioned in the instructions, so not sure how to address these errors.

I'd be grateful for any pointers!

Thank you.

Project Proposal

Hi Prof,

What are the due dates of the project proposal and project?

Kind Regards,

Continuous vs. Discrete Variable

Hi, Which criteria do you use to determine if a variable is continuous or discrete?

  1. The way the data was collected & formatted in the data set gives the impression that it is a discrete variable
  2. By its nature, the variable is continuous despite of how it was collected & formatted in the data set

Example 1: a person's age that is collected in whole number years. Continuous or discrete variable?
Example 2: dollar amounts that do not have any cents. Continuous or discrete variable?
Example 3: a measurement that has been rounded to the tenths place. Continuous or discrete variable?
Example 4: # of candy bars eaten per day. Continuous or discrete variable?
Example 5: # of glasses of water consumed per day. Continuous or discrete variable?

Question 1.70

Hi Professor Bryer,
For question 1.70 on homework 1, do we need to read the Turnbull paper to get the details on the study, such as the sample size, the size of treatment / control groups, etc? The questions (such as part d.ii) imply that we need these numbers.

Thank you,
Neil

Slides and Videos link shows on schedule page but it is not working. Is anyone experiencing same issue?

Project: Picking Interesting Variables

Hi Prof.,
First, thank you for extending the project proposal due date until Thursday.

Secondly, do you have any advice on how to select variables that are interesting and that will make for a good project? I'm having a difficult and slow time picking some that appear to be interesting.

Lastly, when we start the project, do we have any wiggle room to change our selected variables if they are not working out? Thanks!

Homework presentation signup sheet

Hi Professor,
The presentation signup sheet appears to be one from last term. Should we delete the entries that are in there now and put in new dates and problems?

Thank you,
Neil

ActivePerl not loading?

I tried to load ActivePerl per the software instructions, and it skipped past the ActivePerl page to an error page, and would not stay on the download page.

Is there a known issue with this?

class meet up

Hi Prof,
Do we have the meet up today ?. I don't see the GoTo meeting link to connect. The calendar does not have one for today but want to clarify as it says Thursdays in announcement section. Am I missing something ?.
Thanks,
Raghu.

Final Exam Format

Hi Prof.,
Looking ahead a little, I was wondering what the format of the final exam will be like? Thanks!

Package DATA 606

Hello,

I seem to be having issues loading the DATA606's startLab function.

I had performed an install.packages("DATA606"), in addition, to all of the other supporting packages necessary as listed in the announcement. However, when I enter this:

startLab('Lab0')

I get an "Error in find.package("IS606") : there is no package called β€˜IS606’". I was wondering if this was an error on my part or if the package is indeed truly missing.

Thanks!

Recorded weekly meetups?

Where is the link to the recorded weekly meetup from Thursday?
For the lab0, what exactly do we submit? The entire Rmd file, or just the answers to the embedded exercises?
