The method for assigning critters to work is a bit unpleasant, since it focuses on improving the mound with the lowest throughput, which is often not what I want (especially when it comes to rebalancing the overproduction of one side).
So here is a patch that introduces an additional work assignment method (and a configuration option to switch between the two) that focuses on improving the current bottleneck.

This patch also introduces an option to show notifications about the work position a critter is assigned to.

Sorry that I don't provide a pull request, but there is no license mentioned in the README or the sourcecode.
When #1 is resolved, I will provide a Pull Request.

The numbers in the workers tab somtimes don't show up correctly.
One issue is that they do not appear rounded.
Another is that under some conditions the available dirt/grass in the factory is not considered for the calculation.

Also added some comments in the Sourcecode.

Given the passing of The Creator, it's not clear who owns CritterMound or how it can be made open source. While the threat of a dispute is likely small, it's best to get this resolved up front.

My preference would be to see the game be released under one of the common licenses: GPL, MIT license, or even purely public domain.
