I think the style.css file has a lot of CSS without being used.

For example:

Changing the heading of Blog Page

gh-pages is rendering a text page. working fine on my local machine

Hi all

I am new to github and jekyll (:-

I forked 'jalpc_jekyll_theme repository into a 'ashutoshmjain.homepage' repository. And then cloned it to my local machine.

Made several changes. Everything looks good when I 'jekyll serve' on my localhost:4000

I then pushed the changes to git hub. The page https://ashutoshmjain.github.io/homepage appears text only page.

I made sure to follow the instructions in README for the change in base url. Also removed the CNAME as github was throwing warnings.

Will appreciate any help or pointers.

How do I change the initial color of the nav bar menu?

The initial color is white and when I scroll down it became gray. How do I keep the color text gray the whole time?

Can not load the number of stars and forks.

If the project name contains ' . '(dot) (like nuwanda22,github.io) In the project section data(projects.yml) , the number of stars and forks can not be obtained and an error occurs.

CSS doesn't load!!

hey, I've followed your documentation on how to setup the blog, but I run into this bug where css doesn't load! thanks in advance

ERROR: 'static/assets/static/css' not found

Not sure why...but I'm getting a missing file error. I've spent the better part of a day looking for the error to no avail. There's no place this exact string occurs. It appears to be a parsing error somewhere in the build when a file path to a css file is being called from the script. Obviously, somewhere there is a load of css with a prepend 'static/assets/' calling a file from 'static/css', which of course is a false path.

Inspector Console refers to:
(index):488 and...
GET http://localhost:4000/static/assets/static/css 404 (Not Found) | app-20170904.min.js:4

Line 488 in index is for disqus
I commented that line out but doesn't help

Please advise.

Adding Multilingual Page doesn't work!

Hi,

I followd the wiki page of Multilingual Page.

Step 1 and 2 is done

By step 3 my index.html already has the following code

In step 4 i have to add this code

CSS clarification

Could you please put some clarification on how to change in the CSS of the site? colors?
change css, build and see it in the site, which ones to start with.
also uglifyjs is depreciated.

The landing page pictures

You know there are two large pictures right on the top of landing page that continue on every screen. In your website its the picture of a skateboard ..

I feel these pictures are eating away lot of screen real estate , without carrying any specific meaning. Another problem is they don't look good on the smartphones ..

Is there a way to remove these pictures for good ..

Btw - thanks again for your help on the font sizes and the sample css you provided. I have made some modifications and now posts are looking really good ..

I just had a look at the style.css file, and I find it hard to believe that a css styling file with more than 8000 lines code with zero comments is something that a developer could be working on. Is there some original sass source that is not open-sourced here? If so, how can we get them?

Local mode

I read in your Readme file:

jekyll server --watch mode need to use original CSS/JS files

How can i run in local mode loading the original CSS/JS files ?

Blog page - title behavior

When I click on the button 'AmJ' on the blog pages corner ..(top right corner ..same as Jalpc) , it routs me to url 'ashutoshmjain.github.com' .. Since there is nothing hosted on above url , it returns a 404 error.

Is there a way, I could have it routed to ashtoshmjain.github.com/homepage where my site is hosted ..

btw - it works fine on the main landing page where clicking on it takes me to page top ..

I want to completely remove the translation system. I only require English and it is a pain to have to update en.json as well as the other files too for every change. How can I go about this? Sorry for basic question, I have not used Jekyll before. Thanks.

Carousel indicators not centered

The carousel indicators have 60px right padding which puts them off-center. If the padding is removed they center correctly.

I don't want to publish the landing page (About me , skills etc.) to my custom domain. Visitor can click on "AmJ" and get transferred to my homepage here on github if they want to know more about me ..

I created the fork as suggested, however, I'm confused as to why you're stating my upstream should be listed as the following:

It seems that the upstream should be listed as the forked theme (yours/this repos)?

Renders properly on localhost, but doesn't on Github Pages

All the webpages render fine on localhost. However, when pushed to github, only the homepage renders as it should, the blog doesn't (It appears like a text only website).

The home page is https://rsnk96.github.io/
and the blog is at https://rsnk96.github.io/blog/

Public API key for Disqus comments

I am struggling to setup the disqus comments. To get a public API key one has to register the application

is that really necessary?

On the disqus page under installation, one can find their https://help.disqus.com/customer/en/portal/articles/472097-universal-embed-code

which does not need an API key. It works with only this.page.identifier, forum shortname and this.page.url.

So what do you recommend? Should I register the application and get an API key or can we get the universal embed code into the Jalpc theme?

Absolute vs relative paths.

Hi, I think jekyll build or jekyll serve is adding absolute paths to the template.
I am trying to host _site folder on a computer and on opening it in the browser, it looks plain html. Clearly, stylesheets and other stuff are not getting included. I suspect this to be because of absolute addressing.

Hi, There have been multiple places where the code refers to absolute path. I have pointed out a few instances below.

1. href="/blog/" in index.html
2. href="{{ post.url }}" in blog/*.html
3. src="/search/img/cb-button" in blog/*.html

Since I am not sure of all the places where you used this type of naming, I am unable to correct them for myself. This kind of addressing poses problem in case I put my _site folder in some directory that is not '/' for the server. Could you please correct it. Thanks

Markdown code snippet "disappear" (collapse) unexpectedly upon clicking

For some reason, if you have a blog post with a markdown code snippet (created using the triple backtick method), and when you click on that code snippet, it for some reason "disappear" ( (or "collapse" in CSS terms)

Here is a demo - try click on the code snippet and you will see. This is my GitHub repo

I've also just git clone the Jalpc repository from scratch, create a blog post (with a code snippet). Same outcome.

Anybody have similar issue / know how to solve this? (I have no idea how to solve this currently and am quite stuck!)

My CSS are all hung up

SCSS enhancement for local build

First off, thanks for all your work! Really love the ease of build using your framework!

I'd like to continue to use Jalpc for other projects and would like the capability of modifying SCSS file with live updating on the local server. I added my own custom.css file to the "static/assets/css" folder and added it to the file.conf.js file. Works great except that I am limited to CSS and that it doesn't offer live updating unless I'm missing something. When I make a change, I stop "bundle exec jekyll serve" (Windows 10, ugh...) and run "npm run build" to rebuild the minified CSS.

I really prefer using SCSS, which seems to be built in, but I haven't been able to get it to work on top of the serve command.

Requested Local Workflow:

1. Start jekyll serve/watch (using enhanced method)
2. _sass/_custom.scss - modify
3. CSS is compiled from SCSS (automatic)
4. CSS is minified into build (automatic)
5. Site updates live on local

Any help would be appreciated!

mfizz icon mismatch?

The icon mapping seems to be mixed up in the latest version.

For instance, icon-python is the WordPress icon, and icon-microscope is a telephone.

Is there an easy way to correct this?

Update: The mapping seems to be shifted by 20-some places; anyway, I figured out a workaround for the icon I was looking for (icon-python can be produced by referencing icon-netbsd)

Post permalink is missing /homepage/

I just created a new test post. The url for the post is automatically assigned as 'https://ashutoshmjain.github.io/foss/2017/01/17/testpost.html'

As you will notice , its missing '/homepage/' .. so I am getting a 404 error . (foss is one of my categories)

Wondering if there is an easy way to fix it

Font size of blog posts

I was wondering if there is an easy way to increase the font size of blog posts. It could be my older eyes :-) but I think its too small for good readability

I am okay if the setting increases the font size across whole website . Even better .
