tabutils's Issues

Close tabs bug FF26 TU1.6pre9 and TU1.5.26

FF26, TU1.5.26/1.6pre9, new profile (stacks are disabled by default so it looks like they are not the reason). However, bug is reproduced with stacks enabled too. Wait until all the tabs that you open finish loading.

1.Create new profile, launch FF, there will be one tab - open any web-page in it
2.Open any link on this web-page using ctrl-lmb
3.Open a new tab using new tab button on the tab bar
4.Switch to the second tab from the left, close it with Ctrl-W
5.Switch to the second tab (the one you opened in step 3), open any web-page in it, open any link on the web-page by ctrl-lmb
6.Close this tab using Ctrl-W, focus will move to the tab you've just opened - close it with Ctrl-W as well
7.You now have one tab - open any link from it using Ctrl-lmb.
8.Open a new tab using new tab button on the tab bar, load any web-page in it
9.Open 5 links on this web-page using Ctrl-lmb
10.Close the tab that currently has focus (parent tab)
11.Open a new tab using new tab button on the tab bar, load any web-page in it
12.Open any link on the web-page by ctrl-lmb
13.Close tab that currently has focus
14.Close the tab that received focus
For some reason the focus will now move to the first tab though it was supposed to move to the last tab.

I think this is not the only way to reproduce this bug

TU1.6pre12/TU1.5.27 new tab in new stack bug

TU1.6pre12/TU1.5.27, FF27, all FF and TU settings default except for:
extensions.tabutils.autoStack true
extensions.tabutils.dragToStack true
extensions.tabutils.autoCollapseNewStack false

Launch FF - there should be one tab open, open any link in current tab using ctrl-lmb - you'll have a stack
Switch to the opened tab with Ctrl-Tab, then switch back with Ctrl-Tab again
Drag right tab onto the left one - stack will change color
Open any link in current tab with ctrl-lmb - you'll see that new tab was created not after the current one, but after the last one.

Ctrl+Tab regression

I use Ctrl + Tab to navigate tabs in the tab bar order.

The tab switch occurs on key down Ctrl + Tab, without waiting releasing Ctrl key.

But in two most recent versions (1.6pre17 and 1.6pre18), the tab switch only occurs when I release Ctrl key.

This issue only occurs with Tab Utils 1.6pre17/18 + Tile Tabs, don't ask me why. For months these two extensions lived great together. After several tests changing to earlier versions, I concluded that this issue is caused by the new version of Tab Utils (1.6pre17, not solved in 1.6pre18).

One detail is that chrome tabs (like about:config, about:addons) switch without waiting Ctrl release. Only page tabs (like Google, GitHub) are affected by this issue.

Disable Tab Stacking

Hi. I was wondering how can I disable auto tab stacking. I can't find this option in settings. Thanks.

Limit visible rows

This is a great tool, but we cannot set a limit on visible rows, making some merge window tasks a big mistake.

Can you enable this option?

Tab Mix Plus has it and it will be a really killer feature.

I prefer Tab Utils above any other alternatives, but not limited multirow is a weak spot on it preventing me to use it.

[FF Australis] new tab "grab and move" animation not working

------ test env -------
Mac OS X 10.9
Firefox 29.0a2 (Aurora)
TU1.6 pre13

Since Australis Firefox has (finally) a nice animation of the tabs when being grabbed and moved to the left or right. When activating TU this changes back to the old (almost) not animated version with the black bar as position indicator.
Not sure how changing to the new animation will affect the "tab stacking" feature, but it would be nice to still have the new animation when installing/activating TU.

FF26 TU1.6pre7 bug

Create a new FF profile, launch FF
Install TU1.6pre7, browser will restart
Open Panorama window by pressing Ctrl-Shift-E, create a new group by clicking left mouse button and moving your mouse
Name this new group somehow - "ABC", for example
Return to the previous panorama group, click the tab - Move to group - you'll see that group "ABC" has a "null" title.

Open submitted forms and JavaScript links in new tab

Using MMouse or Ctrl+LMouse on a form submit button or a JavaScript link (such as "javascript:window.open('http://www.google.com/');") should open the result in a new tab. There's an add-on for forms called TabSubmit that does this (but doesn't always seem to work), and there was once an add-on called Smart Middle Click that handled JavaScript links (but has since been abandoned and removed from AMO). These add-ons should serve as a good starting point for rolling this functionality into TU, where it rightfully belongs.

Pinned Tabs Issues Windows 7x64, Firefox 27.01

New user, convert from long-time TMP user.
I have four pinned tabs in a multi-row tabbar setup. Three issues:

  1. Pinned tabs are on a separate row at the top; they keep changing order on their own.
  2. One pinned tab (Fastmail webmail page) occasionally creates a duplicate non-pinned tab, not in the pinned row.
  3. Just lately (two days) every link clicked in email messages on that pinned tab opens two identical tabs - as if I clicked them twice. Not happening on any other tab, pinned or not.

I am not yet familiar enough with Tab Utilities about:config settings to see anything out of the ordinary. BTW, TabMixPlus is still installed but disabled. Could this be a problem with Tab Utilities??

Also, this is a second profile - first one (long time profile) apparently became corrupted and was buggy. I am now using this new profile as the default but haven't deleted the old profile. Could that be a problem with Tab Utilities?

I appreciate any help you can offer.
Thank you, Jim

Auto-close unintentional tabs cancels downloads in new windows

For example, if you shift-click a download link to open it in a new window, or if you click an external link and it opens a new firefox window to download it, then the auto-close feature will close that window and cancel the download. If you choose to Save As, then it will do so while the Save As dialog is shown, immediately closing it too.

Ideally, I'd still like it to be able to auto-close the new blank window, but if it can't be made to do so without cancelling the download then it would be less harmful to just leave it open.

Bug with Tab Utilities 1.6pre11 (Faviconized tabs open all links in new tabs)

Since the last update, a new tab is created when I click on a link in any of my pinned tabs. When the tab is unpinned, the problem doesn't happen. It's clearly a bug and I read that someone else experienced this bug :

"I have 3 tabs faviconized: My Webmailer. Wikipedia and a third one.
In old version only clicking on an image from commons opens a new tab *), never a new tab from webmailer internal links, in pre11(?) clicking on every WP article opens a new tab and most internal actions in webmailer open new tabs. A lot of tabs while reading e-mails and WP ... Not a good idea ... should be changed ..."

Could you please fix this as soon as possible

Thank you

Thank You, And A Humble Suggestion

ithinc: Thank you for your excellent add-on, I really appreciate it. I'd like to humbly suggest that you add the feature "extensions.tabutils.dragToUnStack", the exact opposite of "extensions.tabutils.dragToStack". I think that this would make your already five-star add-on even better. Thanks for your consideration, and thanks again for Tab Utilities.

Compatiblity

I attempted to install version 26 with an update of Tab Utilities 1.5.1 to 1.5.20 that was suppose to be compatible with version 26. What happened was for a time (one closing and reopening of the browser) the work tabs were fine, then the tabs went from hibernation to active, while I was looking at a site, layered tabs became single tabs, all tabs in recent closed tabs and recent closed windows list was gone. All had to be restored, only to have it happen again. After installing an older version of Firefox, even though the single window mode was not enabled and “show my windows and tabs from last time”, I was getting my home page and my work tabs in one window all active. I finally got that fixed. But, the Tab Utilities and Firefox 26 always gets the above described result.

I am currently trying the newer 1.5.20 with an older version of Firefox, and I am waiting to see if there is any problems; hopefully there is none.

I, also, checked for viruses, and there was none.
Firefox, when I e-mailed them about the problem, stated that the blame was fully the add-on's fault (I do not fully believe this). They also stated on having Firefox remove the add-on from their list. This I do not want to happen as I told them.

Tab Utilities is a great research tool, and works (at least 1.5.1, on the newer one we will see) fine with older versions of Firefox.

However, there is a serious problem that I believe is a compatibility issue; even though when Firefox installs their update they check for compatibility of add-ons and disables any incompatible add-ons. This needs to be addressed and fixed.

FF27+ XUL Overlay issue

In tabutils.xul, there is an overlay being done that assumes #browser is a child of #browser-panel. In Firefox 27, #browser is now a child of #content-deck which is in turn a child of #browser-panel.

This causes a #browser element to be created in the wrong place with the toggler elements inside of it rather than in the real #browser element.

links in locked tab are opened in new tab

When I open a link from a locked tab in a new tab, this new tab will also be locked. Furthermore, all links that I click in this new tab will be opened in additional new tabs.

I think the problem is that the newly opened tab is being locked automatically. When I unlock it, links will be opened within the same tab just as expected.

[Feature Request] Tab Close action for Tree Style Tabs

When using the add-on Tree Style Tabs, none of the available tab close actions allows for the following tab focus logic:

  • if the last child tab of a parent tab that still has other children gets closed, then focus the (new) last child of the same parent tab instead of focusing the next/right parent tab
  • if the first child tab of a parent tab that still has other children gets closed, then focus the (new) first child tab of the same parent tab instead of focusing the parent tab (=left tab) itself
  • if the last child tab of a parent tab that has no other children gets closed, then focus the parent tab itself.

Ideally for me, a new (default-invisible) advanced option could be implemented in Tab Utilities that allows me to configure a custom function like: "nextTabToFocus = myTabClosingFunction(closingTab);" If this script is not configured or returns null, the usual "related tab" or "right tab" logic from Tab Utilities' drop down boxes could handle the event. This way, I could use Tree Style Tab's API to determine the logical next tab to focus (as described above) from the closingTab parameter manually.

Move to group missing in menu

I have several profiles that I use so that I can be logged into the same site with different IDs. I have the same pluggins installed on all of them. On one profile tho, the option in the menu to "move to group" is missing. I have cleared all the files, went back to default setting, re-added all the plugins and still get the same result. Am I doing something wrong or missing something to get this feature in that one profile? I suspect I have to have a setting wrong somewhere. I can't find anything in the options menu to make this option available either.

I wanted to attach a screenshot but it seems that when I click to get a screenshot, the menu goes away too. Great plugin.

Thanks.

Incompatibility

This is sent to inform you of a problem.
There is an incompatibility issue between Tab Utilities (either version1.5.26 and 1.5.27) and Mozilla Firefox version 27, as well as 26.
What takes place is for 3 minutes all is normal tabs on the work tab bar is in hibernation, then they all become active (1st clue), then, if one goes to history then down to the recently closed tabs and recently closed windows lists one see that they are gone, and then one goes to the tabs that are layered they have become single. Thus wiping out a great deal of work.
Also, after going to site, an example Wikipedia, and look at several pages, after this one goes to the top left to the arrows that move you backward or forward, and you move back to the beginning page (homepage). Then move on to the next tab. Then you close the browser. The next day you open the browser and open Wikipedia again, only it is not the homepage , but the last page you looked at at that site, with no arrows in the top left is gone, meaning that is the beginning page, not even reloading the tab helps. One has pull up the site once more. This holds true for any site visited.

Unable to Display Tab Bar on Left

In Tab Bar Features, I select "Left" from the dropdown list, but it displays the tab bar on the right. All the other options work correctly. If I select Top, it displays on top, if I select Right, it displays on the right. However, selecting Left displays the tab bar on the right. I was experiencing this issue with 1.5.27, tried updating to 1.6pre20, but it still does the same thing.

Colourize Tab Stacks stops working

It seems that since I used "Options/Appearance" to change the colour of all tabs, "Colourize Tab Stack" has stopped working. Regrettably I am new to Ffx, (from 10 yrs with Opera). However I did have Tabgroups Manager and TU working together in an Opera+ fashion yesterday, and tab stacks were properly tinted for easy recognition. Alas not now...and I don't seem able to recover, by reinstating the original tab colours.

All the same, stacks and groups make for better browsing, thank you!

Faviconized tab width

I expected faviconized tabs were visually identical to pinned tabs, but faviconized ones are wider.

Here's a screenshot with one pinned tab (left) and one faviconized (right):
http://i.imgur.com/pBZerKY.png

It is possible to change this by reducing faviconized tab widht?

You responded to my post with the following question:
Have you tested it in a clean profile with only one extension TU installed?

My answer is yes . I had removed all traces of any past programs, when I noticed the problems (below), and then reinstalled your program (either 1.5.26, or 1.5.27)
"After going to site, an example Wikipedia, and looking at several pages, after this one goes to the top left to the arrows that move you backward or forward, and you move back to the beginning page (homepage). The above described problem persisted after these actions.
As far as the incompatibility, I had run 1.5. 27 for a time, after I had did the actions described above, then the Mozilla Firefox update notice appeared and I updated. Then the incompatibility issue I described (see above) took place.
I informed you of this issue not to complain, for I do love your program (it is very helpful for researchers), but to inform so that you would know that there is a problem: so you could work on it.

Tab switching 'broke' in pre18?

Open new tabs - A, B, C - from current tab. Before pre18, CTRL+TAB would take me to new tab 'A'. Now I am taken to tab 'C'.

Is there a setting I can change to take me back to the 'old' behaviour? If not, can we have that feature?

Thanks.

[TU1.6pre11+/TU1.5.27 / FF 29.0a2 / mac] on exiting video fullscreen tab and URL bar hidden

tested with:
TU1.6pre11, 1.6pre12 and 1.5.27
Firefox 29.0a2
Mac OS X 10.9

steps to reproduce:

expected result:
after leaving the fullscreen mode the browser window gets restored to the state before entering fullscreen

actual result:

  • the OSX controlers are visible: main bar, close/minimize/maximize buttons, fullscreen arrow
  • browser chrome hidden: tab bar and URL/search bar are hidden;

see screen: this shows the top-left corner of the browser after exiting fullscreen, with the OSX buttons, the backround image of the page, where the browser chrome should be

screen shot 2014-02-11 at 19 50 38

If I have "bookmarks" visible, they are partly visible after leaving fullscreen.

[TU1.6pre14 / FF 29.0a2 / win7/mac] Misc. issues with pinned tabs

There are several issues with pinned tabs atm.

tested with
TU1.6pre14
Firefox 29.0a2 (built 2014-02-19)
Windows 7 SP1 / Mac OS 10.9

expected

  • pinned tabs can be moved
  • pinned tabs can be removed
  • there is an animation when moving a pinned tab (see #24 )
  • there are delimiters between pinned tabs

screen cast TU disabled
http://ubuntuone.com/1mjFi9N6YS7ycASCLAXFQl

actual

  • no delimiters between pinned tabs
  • no animation when moving a pinned tab, but a little arrow symbol instead
  • when trying to move a pinned tab, a second pinned "ghost" tab gets create which 'on click' opens a new normal tab
  • changing the pinned tabs ( while TU is disabled or enabled ) will bring back the old (outdated) pinned tabs and tab sequence (when I enable TU again) after a browser restart

screen cast TU enabled
http://ubuntuone.com/2TVe9bNJZhHmuw6XKbuxZ9

It seems that TU completely locked down my pinned tabs to some saved state and doesn't let me update them. I can't say since when this is happening, though.

Let me know if you need more infos / test case / etc.
