what happens if the defines reference other macros? Is it recursive?

It is only used, to my knowledge, to document the default values of the synthesis parameters, if they are given by macros

My recommendation is to force all synthesis parameters to have a literal default value and not use the script.

We keep the script anyway

most of them are very similar

a top script should search the keywords in all files in a directory and generate the various tex files
