Hi @jackgisby, I've been testing this out on a Mac (macOS 10.15) and the environment solving seems incredibly slow. I know you've suggested using mamba as an option, however, I had a quick look into this and found some information about the way the solving is undertaken and how the ordering of the channels listed in environment.yml affects the solving performance.

I quick swap of the top two channels to prioritise conda-forge over bioconda seems to significantly improve performance while allowing users to stick with using conda. Thought it might be useful to swap these two entries round, although useful to keep the note about using mamba anyway. I'll open a PR which you can merge if you're happy to make this change. Thanks.
