I believe it doesn't impact OpenCDMS. The intention is that we just provide data to any library and that the code could be under any licence (including proprietary licences).

There is a trend in the open source world for some front-end applications to be GPL (and require changes to be shared) and for generic libraries to use a more permissive licence like MIT (to maximise adoption, even if improvements aren't shared). But this may or may not be the best fit for R-Instat.

We discussed internally and felt that the L-GPL license was a good balance between the permissive and restrictive aspects of GPL and MIT.
