I think vscode would make a valuable addition to the editors section.
This link seems to be not valid anymore
Mac macOS Manual Pages - Apple's official man page reference which lists all general commands in Section 1.
https://developer.apple.com/legacy/library/documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/
Clicking on it redirects to a blank web page ("The page you’re looking for can’t be found.")
It would be nice to have an awesome logo for this repository.
Hi! Please add Spark in e-mail utilities section.
https://sparkmailapp.com
The link to the application Hacky (http://www.hackyapp.com/) seems dead. The GitHub repo still exists but it's also not maitained for 3 years.
I jsut made an issue instead of PR since I don't know you will remove the app from the list or just change the link target to GitHub (even it discontinued).
Currently, there are two news readers that are grouped in different categories: ReadKit
is in Bookmark Utilities since it can manage Instapaper/Pocket, while Vienna
is in Other probably because it is lacking that integration (I have not used it). If #475 is approved, a third full-featured news reader would be added.
I suggest grouping these apps, along with perhaps hacker-menu
into the category News Readers, and move Spillo
to Other, or alternatively keep it as the sole member of Bookmark Utilities.
I think it is ideal to keep the Other category as small as possible, as it is the proverbial junk drawer that makes finding relevant apps harder.
NameMangler is a powerful app to batch rename files! I love it!
Awesome OS X label needs to be changed to Awesome macOS.
@herrbischoff Can you help with this since you designed the original label?.
https://github.com/mathiasbynens/dotfiles would be the first (also partly under setup)
Hey @iCHAIT
I see a lot of open pull requests..
Do you need help to maintain this list?
I or other volunteers would be glad to help
Feel free to close this if you're all set
Hi,
I was just scrolling through the list and although I found there are quite a lot of super cool things, what is the criteria for things to make it onto this list?
@iCHAIT, could you please create a new label for issues and PRs that reads "needs endorsement". I believe this would help sort the PRs that we have to wait for more comments.
@dkhamsing: What do you think?
As WWDC is approaching and it is somewhat confirmed osx will now be called macOS, would you be changing this repository's name to awesome-macOS or am i too soon to open an issue right now?
Hi. Please consider to add jet-live library for non-intrusive hot c/c++ code reload approach for macOS.
Thank you!
I think Calibre is missing in the ebook category. It is an awesome tool to use for managing your ebooks. It is also able to upload the books to your Kindle (and all the other e-reader there are.)
Quote from Contribution Guidelines:
New categories or improvements to the existing categorization are welcome.
There is a large number of game source ports with binary builds for OS X available and regularly updated.
Does it make sense add a separate category for them? Because the source port is different from the corresponding game, it contains no copyrighted assets and data. User must own the game to play its source port.
May I suggest adding a little icon to all freeware? That'd be useful for those who (try to) focus their software choices on F/OSS.

Awesome list though! 👍
Just an fyi, Amphetamine hasn't been updating in a few years, and no longer works on the latest 2 macOS major versions: https://github.com/x74353/Amphetamine/issues/26
The address could be simply awesome-osx.github.io
or something like that whatever the repo owner decides to.
The website can be a Bootstrap
single page with Jumbotron for header,
and multiple table rows and columns consists of each product. Once user clicks, it will show a modal
so the user can stick with the same page.
I have my portfolio website (still under development :p ) at http://saehunseanoh.me and it will look similar to Project section.
anyone interested? then I'll start it from today.
It would be nice to have an awesome logo for this list.
Maybe something similar to this.
Just a head up, Applications > Chat Clients > Textual 5 is not Open Source, at all. It might confuse others as it happened to me.

Ignore the warning about being offline and click on applications.
The downside is it's not automatic (in checking) like that Windows program Secunia PSI was, once upon a time.
Brew - Package manager for macOS.
Status: let's check back in Dec/Jan and see the progress of the app

This repository is pretty good. Do have a look at it.
I think this could be added to the SETUP category.
And btw, great work! 😄
Since the macchanger in the list doe not work for me, I made my own one.
Would you like to add it to the list too?
https://github.com/shilch/macchanger
All do you think it would be fitting to start adding OS X 10.11 setup notes and gist articles to the project? I found a good Gist article at:
https://gist.github.com/saetia/1623487
Let me know if it is sufficiently comprehensive and I can work on the pull request.
Hello -
I was wondering if you had any recommendations for syncing files? I notice in your (amazing) list there was no mention of software such as box, dropbox, onedrive, owncloud, nextcloud, google drive, ...
I personally dislike all of these services and only need them in rare instances where I want to either share a file quickly or using a phone and need to refer to a file during a last minute / unexpected meeting. My only option seems like one of these services or carry around an external drive. Some way of using github would be nice, but github is clearly not intended for carrying around all my files.
Anyway, you seem like you have it figured out so I thought I would ask your advice :)
We should include https://lhc70000.github.io/iina/ after it gets out of alpha, let's look at this again in April :)

Should this be removed/updated ?

Good initiative, but this is GitHub, an open source community. You should not advertise non open source software. It is a lack of respect toward all people working hard for helping the community and sharing their code. Please remove all non open source apps from the list. There is already the Mac app store for those who do not believe in openess and sharing. For almost every one of the non open source apps listed there is an equivalent open source one if you search for it. Thanks.
Hello, this app Krita is very good, is Open source and is available for OS X for free if you want to add it to the readme file.
For all open source app it would be better to have the following structure -
The primary link should point to the tool/application's website and the OSS symbol for the same should point to the source code.
All Github repositories contain a link to the website (but the websites might not have links to Github repos.)
Add opensource badge to clipmenu

Hi. Can you add this tools to your list?

fyi, Gas-mask doesn't work for me. I'm not sure if it's just me, or it's incompatible with High Sierra, but i see many issues reported in their Github repo.
In any case, SwitchHosts seems a better alternative.
It also has an Alfred workflow :)
IntelliJ

Should this be added to Developers
