kircher's Issues

people spreadsheet missing religion

Nicole, the religion column disappeared from the people spreadsheet. I am going to work on the spreadsheet anyway and hope we can add it back later....please let me know ASAP if I should stop working until the problem is repaired. --Suzanne

Question about some dedications

Question about the Egyptian Oedipus dedications. Do vols 2 and 3 each have one main, overarching dedicatee? The spreadsheet says:

Oedipus Aegyptiacus II, rome 1653 - Classis 1-2, Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand III

Does this mean that Ferdinand III is the dedicatee for just classis 1-2 or is he the dedicatee of the entire work, plus classis 1-2? Same with Oedipus III and Leopold Wilhelm.

What about Primitiae Gnomonicae Catoptricae, Avignon 1635 dedicated to Jean De Cambis and 5 others. Do we know the five others? Should we just leave this dedicatee as Jean de Cambis alone?

New Dedications Info

Integrate the corrected dedications info with latest dedications spreadsheet. Iva--which dedications spreadsheet did you correct? We need to make sure that the corrected info gets on the latest one that we are using. The latest one should be found here in a downloadable format.

Book Agents

Once the new schema have been added to the individuals spreadsheet, add more book agents.

Individuals Spreadsheet New Format

Get all spreadsheets available in Excel for Iva and Suzanne to work on. We are unable to download/work with the current file for individuals.

State of the Data from Iva

The original spreadsheet is 060211, some of its columns were deleted and some were added to create the secondary combine_individuals_letters (lets call it CIL) spreadsheet (also all the rows where Kircher is the author and all rows which are not letters were deleted from 060211 for CIL. I would suggest to combine them by adding columns J-Q from CIL spreadsheet into 060211 but as you see now some rows that are in 060211 are missing in CIL (this was because we wanted only letters sent to Kircher by then). So I have no idea, if this combination is possible or how it is difficult. I have a home office today so I will be online from about 6 AM until 9 AM your time but probably also later.

Published authors

Continue research into published authors. Add to Excel spreadsheet once Suzanne has edited the spreadsheet to reflect our new schema.

Integrating Dedication data

Iva, we need the names of the dedicatees to match (exactly) how those names are written in the people spreadsheet.

Even better. Add a column with the unique ids (comma separated).

Dedications

The use of this list has to do with it's connection to his correspondence network.

What would useful would be to see connections between correspondence, publication, dedication and time. This would reveal patterns of emerging communities within his network.
And help to understand what his network is about. What is driving the correspondence.

Create Schema for Communities

The schema is essentially a description of the category and a definition for each value that can be used within that category.
The schema can be added to the wiki here: [/wiki/Schema-for-Communities]
