homebrew-core's Issues

DVTM formula no longer works with 10.11

Explained in more depth in that repo. I'm logging here too as the developer does not actively support OS X.

I've also put a small bounty on the issue. It's not much, less of an incentive and more of a thank you for anyone who can help.

FR: qt5 offer --with-webkit option?

Our project has the problem that it can't quickly/easily switch to webengine. It is mainly a resources problem, but also as, it is cross-platform, linux distributions will take time to reach qt5.6. Qt5.6 official does not provide webkit binaries any more. Would it be possible to offer a "build with webkit" option for projects that have difficulties making the switch for now?
I asked a similar question on msys2 (kind of a Windows homebrew), and they plan to keep providing webkit binaries "until it is too much of a burden", which sounds like a fair offer to me. They expect webkit to be supportable with not too much hassle during Qt5.6...

gst-plugins-good doesn't find jack install

Bug reports:

I'm building gst-plugins-good with
brew reinstall -v gst-plugins-good --with-flac --with-jack --with-ogg --with-orc --with-speex --with-check --HEAD
where especially the jack module is crucial for me. This used to work but now pkg-config doesn't find jack anymore, even though the exact same commands configure performs work outside of Homebrew. I also tried to add PKG_CONFIG_PATH=$PKG_CONFIG_PATH:/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig in front of brew reinstall as configure suggests (I of course confirmed that the jack.pc file actually exists in this location) but with no effect. Any hints why pkg-config doesn't work as soon as called in this Homebrew script is welcome.

mit-scheme march=native doesn't always work

I saw this on a Skylake iMac where --build-from-source didn't work but --build-bottle did. The same workaround seems to have resolved the problem reported in #461, where the architecture was not Skylake, so it's a bit more widespread of an issue than I'd originally thought.

Although this is clearly an upstream bug, is there a preferred way to force -march=core2 (or something else that solves the problem in another way) for a single formula until this is actually fixed?

Backport Security Fixes for Samba, upgrade it, or kill it.

The branch of Samba we've been on for a while now was EOL'd in 2015, and has consequently stopped receiving security fixes. Putting it mildly getting stuck in this position isn't exactly desirable. You can see just how much Debian has had to backport for this branch of Samba here.

Options:

  • Piggyback on Debian, borrow and refine their patches where necessary, bump the revision.
  • Upgrade to 4.4.2. @nijikon started work on that here, I'm not sure on the status of it. I think @mistydemeo said something long long ago about the build system being problematic for OS X on newer releases but I could be misremembering.
  • Kill it with πŸ”₯.

VTE formula installs a version that doesn't work

The VTE formula tries to install vte version 0.42. This version will crash with Mac as soon as try to use Vte.Terminal().spawn_sync. In fact if you open VTE the output will be a blank window, 'cause it won't be able to execute bin/sh.

This could be fixed by downgrading vte to 0.40 or to updating to 0.44.

weechat 1.4 --with-ruby did not build

Fix that worked

mkdir ~/Documents/fink-2016-04-11
sudo mv /sw ~/Documents/fink-2016-04-11
brew reinstall --with-ruby weechat

Dirty fix that also worked

cd /Library/Caches/Homebrew
tar -zxvf weechat-1.4.tar.gz
locate ruby.h
nano weechat-1.4/src/plugins/ruby/CMakeLists.txt
added path where ruby.h lived via include_directories($path) after if(RUBY_FOUND)
tar -zcvf weechat-1.4.tar.gz weechat-1.4
try reinstalling, insert "actual" checksum with brew edit weechat
tried again reinstalling, same game for the next error...
rinse and repeat until compiles

  • Ran brew update and retried your prior step?
  • Ran brew doctor, fixed as many issues as possible and retried your prior step?

Your system is ready to brew.

"node: command not found" after completing "brew install node"

I just installed Homebrew today, and I ran 'brew update'. Here's version info:

Homebrew 0.9.9 (git revision 4a7c; last commit 2016-04-11)
Homebrew/homebrew-core (git revision 530b; last commit 2016-04-11)

I'm on Mac OS 10.6 (I know it's old, but not sure this computer can handle El Capitan) with GCC installed. Her's output from 'xcode-select --version' and 'gcc --version'

Here's output from 'brew doctor'.

When I run 'node -v', I get '-bash: node: command not found'.

Uninstalling and reinstalling node doesn't seem to work. Here's the full output of when I run 'brew uninstall node' and then 'brew install node' .

One thing that seems maybe useful is this line:
make: *** [Python/mactoolboxglue.o] Error 1
I saw some suggestions for other operating systems to reinstall XCode when getting this error, but can I resolve this without installing XCode and relying on GCC? I'm trying to save some hard drive space.

ncmpcpp failing on launch

On trying to run ncmpcpp, I am just getting:

dyld: Library not loaded: /usr/local/opt/icu4c/lib/libicudata.56.1.dylib
Referenced from: /usr/local/opt/boost/lib/libboost_locale-mt.dylib
Reason: image not found
fish: 'ncmpcpp' terminated by signal SIGTRAP (Trace or breakpoint trap)

I tried both reinstalling, installing an old version, old version of icu4c, compiling from source. None of them seems to fix the issue.

This started happening a couple of days ago, so apparently some package in brew was updated, breaking the build?

Missing headers for libffi

Using libffi: stable 3.0.13 (bottled), HEAD [keg-only], there is no include/-directory bottled with libffi. It would be nice if a --with-sources-option would include the source files.

Installing php56 via Homebrew not working with Apache 2.4

Please follow the general troubleshooting steps first:

  • [ X ] Ran brew update and retried your prior step?
  • [ X ] Ran brew doctor, fixed as many issues as possible and retried your prior step?
  • [ X ] If you're seeing permission errors tried running sudo chown -R $(whoami) $(brew --prefix)?

Bug reports:

Installing php56 via homebrew results in php 5.6.20 being installed, but when used with Apache 2.4.16 and included in the httpd.conf file with the line:
LoadModule php5_module /usr/local/opt/php56/libexec/apache2/libphp5.so
it results in the following error from apachectl configtest:

The line referenced is the LoadModule line above. OS is: Mac OS X v10.10.4.

Seems like you guys are in the middle of a migration, and It's unfortunate that this gets to be the one of the first issues but I've been pulling my hair out for this so I thought I'd just post an issue.

web100clt fails to build due to openssl issue on 10.11

Having an issue installing web100clt from current bottle and from source on 10.11. 'brew link openssl --force' fixes the issue on a second install attempt (from source, the bottle is still broken).

See below:

Not working:
https://gist.github.com/anonymous/3fc81ec3f4db4510e1a92627c708eb70

See lines 125-131; 183 in '01.configure'

To fix:

brew link openssl --force
brew reinstall --build-from-source web100clt

Afterwards, working:
https://gist.github.com/anonymous/15225bc17aaba71adb8bb91f7df94d67

See same lines in '01.configure'

I realize force-linking openssl is probably not the best way to fix this and may cause other issues with my system but I use this tool often for work so that is acceptable for now. Just wanted to post an Issue to make others aware and see if we can work out the root cause.

Any time spent / insight / suggestions greatly appreciated.

Geocouch shasum changed

The SHA sum for the current geocouch file (https://github.com/couchbase/geocouch/archive/couchdb1.3.x.tar.gz) has changed some time between July 2014 and now, so attempts to install from source get a SHA mismatch error.

Cmake cannot find the qt installed with homebrew

Hi
I tried to install qt on my MacOS 10.10 this morning and chose homebrew to do that.
#brew install qt
And qt was been installed to /usr/local successfully。
But it seems that Cmake cannot find it because there is not Qtconfig.cmake or findQt.cmake。
So,how can I fix this?

brew cask install caskroom/cask/brew-cask does not work

I try ''brew install caskroom/cask/brew-cask'' on my OS X 11.04 system. I meet the following problem. I have tried brew update and brew doctor, no warning and no error show up. But I still get the same issue. What is the problem?

  • Ran brew doctor, fixed as many issues as possible and retried your prior step?
  • If you're seeing permission errors tried running sudo chown -R $(whoami) $(brew --prefix)?

Permission errors are not applicable to this bug.

Bug reports:

The last time I used brew, everything was working fine. Then I tried to install a package today and was told that brew had no clue where my git executable was anymore. I effectively cannot do anything with my brew install that was working perfectly fine the last time I needed to install a new formula.

I have not changed anything to do with my brew install or my git install in the meantime. This StackOverflow user seems to have run into the same issue that I have. It's a six day old question at the time of this posting. See outputs below.
