I have checked the box for the fan control service to be enabled but the fan still resets to auto whenever I put the laptop to sleep and resume windows afterwards. It's really annoying that I have to keep resetting the fan speed to auto especially when I have to put my laptop to sleep whenever I change classes. I have confirmed that the service is setup to run automatically in services.msc. I'm currently running an Asus G56JR and Windows 10 Home. Help is much appreciated.

excellent tool you have there. I own a Probook 650 G1 and this tool kept my fan mostly under control.

Sometimes, however, the fan starts running at 80% speed for a few minutes and then stops. This happens even while CPU is idle, which is also visible from the tool as well:

• Temperature (CPU): 53 C
• Target fan speed: 0% (Auto)
• Current fan speed: 80%

Normally it runs for about a minute and then goes back to 0%.

Do you have any suggestions where to look? What could be causing this?

A few times lately I have noticed that after resuming from sleep the NBFC taskbar icon is showing 0 degrees, which would be nice if it was true :) In the NBFC window the Selected config is empty. It is possible to select one, but it won't stick - it just goes empty again. Also, in this fault condition, the 'Fan control service enabled' box cannot be ticked and no fans are listed below it.

Unfortunately, if I don't notice the taskbar icon before starting a VidCoder job (a very processor-intensive process) and wandering away, the temperature goes sky high, the job goes really s-l-o-w and the laptop feels like it's going to melt! I've tried closing NBFC and also killing it with Process Explorer and then restarting it, but it still comes up empty. NBFC only restarts properly during a machine restart.

Hello, after searching a long time for any tool to tweak my fan on a Dell Latitude E6430 I found your tool. Unfortunately I have to create my own config. The problem is: RW-Everything is not starting the EC Tab. It starts a lot of others but that one is not working. I tried to install and start the tool with admin privileges and also from windows 8.1 safe mode. I didn't work. I couldn't find an RW-Everything alternative as well. Any ideas?

New version changed Asus N550JV config to the worse, the only noticable thing i've found is that Max speed was set to 12 while it was 8 on ver1.1.1.19 so i reinstalled 1.1.1.19 and everything works as i should. Other than that everything is great. I love your software and i thank you for making it, both me and my laptop thanks you. much love from Sweden

This software works wonders under Windows, and there is no proper "one fits them all"-Linux-solution, so I would love to see NB FC on Linux.
I don't know if it could work, so if it doesn't, just forget about it 😄

The fan sound of the Lenovo Yoga 2 13 (non pro) laptops are prone to be loud, as was the case with my Windows 8.1 laptop. Installing Notebook Fan Control unfortunately did not help in reducing the noise but instead prevented my battery from charging. Hovering over the battery icon in the tray would show "22% available (plugged in, not charging)". Charging resumed after uninstalling NBFC.

The root cause of the issue is unclear to me, maybe it's on Lenovo's side. (Well, the noisy fan certainly is.) However, it could potentially help other Yoga owners if it would be possible for NBFC to detect and warn about the problem.

Since i bought my lenovo Y510p it is getting a bit hot (78°-82°) I cleaned it already and removed the accumulator but it didn't changed the temperature in cause of the fan wich turns slow even in games the fan is really quiet.

so I would be happy about a Lenovo Y510p configuration to turn the fan up

I just have a question about it : with my ASUS ROG G53SX, I use the ROG G751JY profile, and it works ! But I just can control the CPU FAN, and not the GPU FAN. Do you know if it's possible, or of not, can you explain to me why ?

As we've discussed in #18 the current implementation of FSTemperatureMonitor is somewhat confusing.

Some things I'd suggest doing:

• Rename the whole thing to LinuxTemperatureMonitor. Neither does the hwmon work only on file systems (the current code ignores everything except CPUs), nor is it portable to anything except Linux.
• Get rid of the configuration file: Hardware is dynamic and the code should reflect this. It's OK to check the list of available sensors (additionally to their values) every second, the additional overhead for you're usual <10 sensors is negligible.
• If you do want to keep the configuration file around, use it only to allow the user to set additional temperature sensors and blacklist known bad ones instead of using as "temperature sensor law".

Please let me know what you think about these points.

After going through your steps and checking the status I just get

Could not get fan info because the service is disabled

And I've tried both through the shell script and by doing mono nbfc.exe start

Running Linux version, using Asus N550JV config on same computer. After working before on this computer yesterday, today it will only give a "EC initialization timed out." when attempting to start the service using "mono nbfc.exe start". Restarted computer, still won't work.

A further issue: due to how command line's work, I had to put an underscore in "Asus_N550JV.xml" in the Configs folder, and need to put in a similar underscore in when I use "mono nbfc.exe config -a Asus_N550JV".

EDIT: Found the problem, it'll only accept "sudo bash start-nbfcservice.sh" as the startup, not a simple "./start-nbfcservice.sh". Odd, but it seems to be working now...

after a lot of testing I have undoubtedly concluded that NFC interferes with the touchpad on my laptop, causing it to constantly hang for short periods of time.

Laptop is an Asus K501LX-EB71. I'm using ASUS Zenbook UX32LN config.
I've tested it on Windows 7, 8 and 10, with all different touchpad drivers available I could find (this issue has been really annoying me, so I've already tried all workarounds I could imagine haha).

Disabling the NFC Service makes it work normally again. It's like day and night. I simply can't use the notebook touchpad with the NFC Service active. USB mouses aren't affected by this.

Let me know if you need any further information or testing.

I have found your program today and was a bit unhappy that none of the Sony configurations worked for my laptop. However, instead of opening another "Please Help!" ticket, I started to investigate the issue ;-) , wrote a little tool, based on your code, to dump, read and write EC registers and found out that the fan speed is controlled by register 76 on my laptop. While the full range 0...255 of possible values seems to be allowed by the EC, the hardware only seems to be capable of about 32...128.
So far I have not found any way to hand control back to the EC for automatic fan management; once that register is updated once directly is has to be manually updated until next reboot. I also have not found any reliable way to read the current fan speed value from the EC RAM. Additionally, although it's probably a hardware limitation, I have not found a way to stop the fan completely either.
My questions now are: How do I write a configuration XML based on this information? Would any of the missing pieces of information prevent the configuration file for this platform to be distributed along with NBFC? Shouldn't a tool, similar to the one I wrote for poking around the EC, be shipped with NBFC?

Nbfc will not accept a config when I hit apply. The status box stays blank and nothing happens. Also, checking the enable fan control service unchecks itself a few seconds later.

Any clue whats going on here?

Using nbfc on Linux (hp 2560p). As I dual boot it with Windows, I use xml config created and edited under Windows GUI.

First of all, big thanks for what is already done and working. Just wanted to ask if there is supposed to be any GUI or statusbar icon while service is running? Or is it only possible to see service state via: "#mono nbfc status -a"?

Been using your app on my HP 8560w Elitebook and very impressed, does what I want it to so kudos for the dev work.

Have an issue with the latest version my HP Elitebook 745 G2 (Windows 7 Professional 64 bit); Installation is fine, I can go into the config and edit values however if I try applying a profile nothing happens, the selected profile box is empty so the service can't start.

I have not noted any errors however when I downloaded the latest source and compiled it (Visual Studio 2013 CE) and then installed it, it crashes out with an error (will capture the error details shortly).

I am a big fan of NBFC but other thank my ProBook 4530s, not a lot of popular laptop models are supported. Please add "template profile support" for the following models:

1. Sony VAIO SVF1541CDB (Sony Fit 15E)
2. Lenovo ThinkPad T420*
3. HP ENVY 17 (all models from 2014 onwards)*

*these are very popular laptop models, please add support for these in the next NBFC release, as a lot of people have these

Is there a functionality, whereby future versions of NBFC can automatically scan the laptop system and adjust itself to the correct settings? Such a feature would negate the need for templates and improve end user experience. Thanks.

I am making this thread because i've been struggling a lot to get it to work again

I have all the permissons to do this i feel like i've tried anything and nothing works
list of things i have tried:

1. install in safe mode.
2. Give permission through run as admin in CMD. with
   takeown /f "C:\Windows\System32\en-US\winload.exe.mui"
   i just directed it to the file where it was it didn't work either and went to the current user that has ownership and gave all acces.
3. Tried a Registry Hack that allows you when rightclick a option take ownership comes but still
   don't work.
4. I have tried installing the Latest .NET Framework to my pc.

before i go more through this. i have FOUND the Problem it the NbcfService.msi installer that gives me the trouble.
And IMPORTANT Computer Is not Supported But i've still got it to work for over 2 months ago and there was no problem so don't know why it causes me problems now.
I have an Asus K53sk
I also have the Latest Microsoft .NET Framework Installed just to be clear

I have build errors, too afraid to try it 😆

The temperature shown in NBFC is always ~5°C cooler than what is reported elsewhere. I regularly monitor temperature in Speedfan (looking at the lowest value between "Core 0" and "Core 1") and RightMark CPU Clock Utility. These 2 programs both agree on temperature. NBFC temperature does not seem to correspond to any temperature shown in Speedfan.

Able and willing to do any test, as long as it doesn't destroy my laptop :)

Why in configs for my Asus n550jv only one fan? This laptop has two fans, and different temperature sensors(according to Open Hardware Monitor)
Why some temperatures overlaps in configs?(like 50-65C = 28.6% and 60-70C = 57.1%)

How could i find out the correct register for the fan control?
This notebook has a fan control from the early 80's. It turns at 52°C the fan on, and at 48°C off. This results in a 20 sek off, 10 sek on cycle. Really annoying!

And I've been able to use the Asus Zenbook UX32LN config but was wondering if there is a place where I can request a certain model to be added to the config list. I just downloaded your app to help tone down the constant fan noise on my Asus Ux31a. The application starts perfectly and loads the proper configuration. The issue is that despite being able to change the target fan speed setting, and having the current fan speed bar reflect this change, the fan speed does not actually change; it runs constantly at a high setting despite CPU temp only reading at 42 degrees Celsius. I can set the target fan speed to any increment on the slider, from 0% incrementally all the way to 100%, with no change in actual fan speed. I tried running the program in administrative mode to see if that would make a difference but it did not. Perhaps this a hardware issue on my machine.

The GPU in my Asus G1Sn is always running hotter than my CPU, and my HDD temperature is always nearing (or over) its max. operating temperature. It would be absolutely awesome if one of these temperature sensors could be selected in the program to tie the fan speeds to. (And thanks for your good program so far!)

I tried to apply VN7-792g V17 (i have Nvidia GTX950M) Config file, but it gives me error message : "Notebook Fan Control funktioniert nicht mehr...". So i load the the file for V15 (Aspire VN7 591 V15 Nitro) and it seems to work, but not sure if stable. I am new to windows (used for years MacOS and Linux), so would appreciate some simple how-to problem solving...

I used to use another program for CPU temperature called "Core Temp", by monitoring the behaviour of both programs, your program is always adding (8~12) degree to the actual reading.

Hi. I have a major problem with NBFC. I have had the fan of my notebook Asus "zenbook" UX52VS going crazy, it was starting and stopping several times in several minutes. So I have installed NBFC, and boy did it screw up my computer. Without even realizing that there is no control with this program for my model, the program completely took over the fan control. As it does not support my model, I have uninstalled it, however, my fan doesn't work at all now, my GPU is constantly crashing, even my Windows media player is lagging as the fan is not working. I have reinstalled the program and set fan on another Asus model, to run at 100%, then everything is fine and the computer is not crashing. Once I again unistall the NBFC, fan again loses all the functionality. Can I go back to my default settings? There are no fan settings in BIOS. Can I somehow recall what the NBFC done to my computer? Should I send it to Asus experts to re-do all this damage that this program done to my notebook?
