HaxePunk

HaxePunk is a powerful cross-platform 2D game engine, based on the FlashPunk AS3 library.

  • Builds for HTML5 (WebGL), Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android
  • Hardware acceleration and texture atlas support
  • Gamepad and multi-touch input

Release build

First, make sure you have Haxe 3.0 or higher, we recommend you to update to Haxe 3.2 if you haven't already. Then execute the following commands below to get started with your first HaxePunk project. If you are using Haxe 2 the last version supporting it was v2.3.0 haxelib install HaxePunk 2.3.0.

haxelib install HaxePunk
haxelib run HaxePunk setup
haxelib run HaxePunk new MyProject # creates a new project

Development build

You will need a C++ compiler for native builds (Xcode, Visual Studio, g++).

git clone https://github.com/HaxePunk/HaxePunk.git
make

This will build documentation, run unit tests, and run the example project. If you fix an issue, feel free to create a pull request.

If you've cloned locally, you can set your local repo as a development directory accessible through Haxelib:

git clone https://github.com/HaxePunk/HaxePunk.git
haxelib dev HaxePunk HaxePunk/

To disable the dev directory for HaxePunk simply run the command haxelib dev HaxePunk. Notice there is no third argument passed.

If you just want to install the latest dev version from Git, you can also do this with haxelib:

haxelib git HaxePunk https://github.com/HaxePunk/HaxePunk.git dev

haxepunk.com's Issues

Updating the website, adding new stuff, new design - some ideas!

Since I'm reviving my effort to improve the HaxePunk site I quickly wanted to update this to reflect my current goals:

  • Redesigning the website structure and style to make it a bit more modern and user-friendly
  • Updating the HaxePunk logo
  • Improving on the documentation, updating outdated info, adding more tutorials, faqs etc.
  • Adding more demos and also improving the games page
  • Updating the forum software, maybe even migrating to a different setup -- I personally feel that discourse might be a good idea**
  • Creating some icons and graphics for https://twitter.com/HaxePunk

My working repository can be found here: https://github.com/voec/haxepunk.com/. Feedback is very much welcome.

** (Since I don't have access to the server I'm not sure how smoothly this could be achieved. I would definitely help with setting everything up. Perhaps I could setup the software and style on my local server to be copied over. As for the database I'm not sure how easily it could be migrated, but that's something I could work on as well)

Original post from 2015-10-15:

As I've mentioned before in the forums I feel like the HaxePunk website could use a visual overhaul. I'm not saying that it looks that bad but compared to some of these sites It's not as inviting and modern looking:

http://haxe.org/ - http://haxeflixel.com/ - http://useflashpunk.net/

Also there are a couple of errors on some pages and the tutorial section could use a bit of love. I also feel like the forum software needs to be updated, it's very much out of date and there are a lot of bots registered (even if they don't post).

So I want to use this post to show and discuss some ideas I have and also to see how many people are interested and what others thoughts are.
I'll probably work on this on and off, whenever I have some time to spare, right now I can't quite get the offline server set-up so I can test code etc. Maybe it might be sensible to update the site in tandem with the HaxePunk 3 release, whenever that might be?

Also I'm not quite sure if it's possible to modify the forum? It seems like that part is not in this repository.

So firstly here is a mockup I did, this is only the first version and there is a lot of work still to be done on it, but let me know what you think:

Also on top of that I think it would be cool to also redo the HaxePunk logo as well, I have to admit that I'm not a big fan of it, but maybe there are other opinions?

Anywhere here are some ideas for discussing. I was trying to keep it somewhat in sync with the Haxe logo and design, something like origami and layered shapes.

Cant access website

When I try to go onto the website it shows a page with the namecheap logo on it. Did you shut it down?

Logo

Strangely the svg logo doesn't appears for me in firefox,
works ok in chrome.

Getting Started isn't up to date

Problem

The current documentation located in haxepunk.com/documentation/tutorials/getting-started.md is out of date and is missing information for those trying to use HaxePunk.

Many people follow the instructions located on this page in particular and the information can lead to some frustrated newcomers when they're finding it doesn't work after following the instructions.

Solution

Update the current supported versions for Lime and Openfl as mentioned here: HaxePunk/HaxePunk#606

TODO: convert demos to HTML5

Since WebGL is now officially supported and Flash is less popular, the website demos should be built for HTML5. This will also let us show off new HXP 4 features that won't work in Flash.

Saw that you added a cname,
so I guess you are linking haxepunk.com to it ?
