tfc-guide-example's Introduction

Terraform Cloud Getting Started Guide Example

This is an example Terraform configuration intended for use with the Terraform Cloud Getting Started Guide.

What will this do?

This is a Terraform configuration that will create an EC2 instance in your AWS account.

When you set up a Workspace on Terraform Cloud, you can link to this repository. Terraform Cloud can then run terraform plan and terraform apply automatically when changes are pushed. For more information on how Terraform Cloud interacts with Version Control Systems, see our VCS documentation.

What are the prerequisites?

You must have an AWS account and provide your AWS Access Key ID and AWS Secret Access Key to Terraform Cloud. Terraform Cloud encrypts and stores variables using Vault. For more information on how to store variables in Terraform Cloud, see our variable documentation.

The values for AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID and AWS_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY should be saved as environment variables on your workspace.

tfc-guide-example's Issues

warning specifying version requirements on current version of Terraform Cloud.

I got the following warnings trying this repository, from the Learn guide:

   1: provider "aws" {

Warning: Version constraints inside provider configuration blocks are deprecated

on main.tf line 2, in provider "aws":
   2: version = "2.33.0"

It seems the files were for TF 0.13 and Terraform Cloud is now running v0.14.6

Speculative Run Failed: Reference to undeclared input variable - tag_user_name

I am new to Terraform Cloud and I am following exact same steps this tutorial. Turns out the first problem I faced was that while trying to create a PR master <- add-user-name. There was no diff showed. However after resolving that by making my own little changes to get this to work, I faced another problem. Now the Terraform Test is failing. See the screenshot:

Update the workflow

I've created a PR #280 . It was closed automatically and I don't have an option to reopen it.

GitHub Actions - deprecated warnings found - action required!

Workflow Name: Your Fork
Branch: master
Run URL: https://github.com/hashicorp/tfc-guide-example/actions/runs/4646255532

save-state deprecation warnings: 0
set-output deprecation warnings: 0
node12 deprecation warnings: 1

Please review these deprecation warnings as soon as possible and merge in the necessary updates.

GitHub will be removing support for these commands and plan to fully disable them on 31st May 2023. At this time, any workflow that still utilizes these commands will fail. See https://github.blog/changelog/2022-10-11-github-actions-deprecating-save-state-and-set-output-commands/.

GitHub have not finalized a date for deprecating node12 yet but have indicated that this will be summer 2023. So it is advised to switch to node16 asap. See https://github.blog/changelog/2022-09-22-github-actions-all-actions-will-begin-running-on-node16-instead-of-node12/.

x509 error

When I install tfc agent using latest image as docker container it can't connect to releases.hashicorp.com with the error

x509: certificate signed by unknown authority.

When I deploy using this https://releases.hashicorp.com/tfc-agent/
,the agent works fine.

Does it mean the ca certs in the docker image is outdated? How to update them
