I am on a fresh installation of Ubuntu 20.10. When I want to select the languages, either in the form
or the target
, it does not display the list of possibilities. Only, English and Russian are by default, and actually, it works.
I have installed the following packages: translate-shell, gir1.2-clutter-1.0, gir1.2-clutter-gst-3.0, gir1.2-gtkclutter-1.0

Hello, I installed this extension from extensions.gnome.org, and translate-shell from debian testing repo. Translator works in general, however it looks like copy-pasting doesn't. When I press "activate from primary selection" shortcut, translation field is either empty, or has previous text that I entered manually in it when used it before. Even more, I can't paste into it, it just remains empty. I checked for errors in gnome looking glass, but none of them where reported there. Can the issue be caused by wayland (I use gnome 3.22 and it runs on wayland on my machine)? Also, this extension was outdated for some time, I just updated it, could it be that installation process went wrong?
p.s. Thanks for you work on this, in my opinion it's one of the most usefull extensions in gnome! I'm glad that it's now maintained again.

The preferences interface allows me to change any option and saves them after closing it exept those options in Translators tab !
I want to change the default translator to Google translator, the default source language to Detect Language and the default target language to Arabic.
When I make those changes and close to preferences UI, I returns them to the default options Yandex Translator , Russian and Frensh.

Hello,
I wonder if there is a possibility to support the general proxy settings of gnome. These information can be forwarded to translate-shell (for the google provider).
Translate shell Networking options:
-x HOST:PORT, -proxy HOST:PORT
Use HTTP proxy on given port.
I think we can add the proxy option in google_translation_provider.js around line 300.
Hi!
After updating to Gnome to 3.34 the text-translator does not work

Michael
I'm running archlinux with gnome 3.32, the extension won't load with this latest update. Looking at the errors from lg
it shows
this._contruct is not a function
The translation window is a bit messed up, and changing the size of the window doesn't help to fix it, can I do something to solve this?
Gnome shell version 3.26.1 (Ubuntu 17.10)
WONDERFUL extension by the way!
The right panel is empty. Yandex translation works.
Run under:
$ gnome-shell --version

Great extension! How about adding support for deepl - i find it translates more natural than Google Translate. Not sure they have an API yet though.
Hi,
Thank you for this amazing extension. I use it almost everyday.
There is one small bug with scrolling though.
Steps to reproduce:
Expected behaviour:
One should be able to scroll through the left pane
Current behaviour:
Cursor goes beyond the displayed text but the text does not scroll
Gnome shell version: 3.34.1
OS: Ubuntu 19.10
Id love to get it working again I use it quite often teaching. Thanks if you know...
Hi, Can you please add a LICENSE to the project?
Thanks!

I have become addicted to this extension, I use it every day at work. That's why it was a blow for me when I upgraded ubuntu from 20.04 to 22.04 and the translator stopped working. At the same time, I understand that the maintenance of such software is very difficult, I do not have the capacity to offer help.
But for people like me, I found a great solution that completely replaces the text-translator:
Whenever translating something with the & symbol there is no translation...
I love theming and this extension is AMAZING, but could you please make it use the current system theme in the translation dialog? I use Adapta for my system.
I cannot get this to work on Fedora 30 / Gnome 3.32.2. I get the big fat ERROR label upon installation from extensions.gnome.org.
I have translate-shell, clutter, clutter-gst3 and clutter-gtk installed. Am I missing some dependencies?
Ubuntu: 16.04
Gnome-shell: 3.20.4
Error:
Gjs-Message: JS LOG: Extension "[email protected]" had error: Error: can't convert length to an integer
When:
After upgrade text-translator
It is somewhat inconvenient to close - lets assume that you are translating often using the select shortcut - there is one hand on the mouse (to select) and the other for the keyboard shortcut. Then to close, I need to select the "Quit" button with mouse, or move my left hand to the "ESC" key.
Possible fixes:
As it says above. The translate shell is installed and works fine on it's own on the command line. But the extension refuses to load and this is what I get when I look at it with Looking Glass.
This happened during the last update.
Any ideas where I can go to fix this?
Unfortunately this great extension doesn't work with gnome 3.24
I am using the extension on opensuse Tumbleweed (right now on GNOME 3.30), and everytime I use it, I get a lot of stack traces in journalctl:

[text-translator-journalctl.log](https://github.com/gufoe/text-translator/files/3017183/text-translator-journalctl.log)
No matter what I'm trying to translate, the translation always begins with:
car:in
auto:en
car:in, auto:in
This happens only when I select "Detect language" for the input. When I change the target language the word in
changes to another random word.
I'm using the Google Translate provider.
Congratulations for the project!
I'm adding this project on gnomeExtensions on NixOS, but I need a version or tag for this repository, what about tag some version or generate a release?

Thank you!
Hello,
It looks like default close window key - escape - is also "forwarded" to opened Firefox in video full screen mode. So close text-translator window when watching netflix causes close full screen.
Close window with mouse works OK - Firefox stays in video full screen mode, but it is not convenient solution.
In properties cannot be changed key assigned to close window, also alt+f4 is not working at all...
Please add function to reassign close window key or perhaps change close behaviour with escape key to be compatible with firefox video full screen.
Fedora 27, Gnome 3.26.2, text-translator version unknown - probably v31 (installed from FedoraAppStore [gnome-software] but there is no info about version; application itself also do not provide version info in GUI or preferences)
Best Regards,
Daniel
Hi,
Unfortunately I see little annoying bug in the latest update only, if update it from github or from extensions.gnome.org: the default translation source is always Yandex. Yes, I could switch it manually every time I press Win+T
to open this extension, but it's not very comfortable.
I tried:
remember the last used language
(I hoped for the miracle, huh).Win+T
again, I always see Yandex as a source.Could you fix it please?
Thanks
Hey guys,
well, at first, I want to say thanks for such a great extension! I've been using it daily a lot!
I've found just one issue so far when trying to translate Cyrillic letters.
For example for input: тест
I'm getting Ñ‚ÐµÑ Ñ ‚ÑеÑÑ Ñ‚ÐµÑ Ñ ‚, Ñ Ñ Ñ
output.
Exactly, I'm translating Serban
to English
.
Best regards,
Milosh
Hi,
I'm running Gnome 3.36 and with the latest extension I'm able to get from extensions.gnome.org I'm not able to quit this extension by pressing anything except clicking on quit button with my mouse. Keyboard bindings are simply not working anymore for quitting the session.
Can you have a look please?
Component: gnome-shell.x86_64 3.30.2-1.fc29 @updates; Installed extension: Text translator.
Invoke keys Ctrl + Alt + Tab, select Top Bar, focus on Text Translator icon, then press either space key or Return key.
Result: application isn't launched , however those keys invocations are able to launch panel related to icons-group dedicated to GNOME – located on on its right side –.
Could you please add support for gnome 3.36?
I just installed your extension and my first impression is wow!
However, some shortcuts are not working.
More precisely, the CTRL+SHIFT+C to copy the translated text keeps copying the original text instead of the translated one. I did not look at your code, but you may ensure it takes the right panel text no matter what was the first language used (may produce a bug after language switching).
The TAB shortcut which is supposed to toggle the transliteration of the result has simply no effect.
