Setting keepalive will prevent the task from ever finishing. Typically users will have the watch task run after the connect task to keep the process running.
The connect task is mostly for running servers to test against. Such as grunt connect qunit which will run a server and then run tests with qunit. Also having it this way allows you to run multiple servers at a time: grunt connect:api connect:tests watch. Our tests for this task spawn a bunch of servers and then run nodeunit tests, as an example.
If you're looking to just run a production server that stays up forever... it would probably be better to use connect directly or one of the many ways to spin up a server on node.
