Packets

I've been working on getting the client to connect to a Hercules server but I'm having some issues understanding where and how to adjust the packets.

So far I can connect to the login and character servers, but I get client side exceptions after selecting a character.

When I use an old version of eAthena, the map server throws an exception complaining about an unknown packet version.

What steps would I have to take to get the Fimbulwinter communicating with Hercules?
