A Chrome extension that adds ChatGPT to every text box on the internet! Use it to write tweets, revise emails, fix coding bugs, or whatever else you need, all without leaving the site you're on. Includes a plugin system for greater control over ChatGPT behavior and ability to interact with 3rd party APIs.

Install

First clone this repo on your local machine

Then install dependencies

npm install

Copy .env-example into a new file named .env and add your ChatGPT API Key.

Run the server so the extension can communicate with ChatGPT.

node server.js

This will automate interaction with ChatGPT through OpenAI's API, thanks to the chatgpt-api library.

Add the extension

1. Go to chrome://extensions in your Google Chrome browser
2. Check the Developer mode checkbox in the top right-hand corner
3. Click "Load Unpacked" to see a file-selection dialog
4. Select your local chatgpt-chrome-extension/extension directory

You'll now see "Ask ChatGPT" if you right click in any text input or content editable area.

Troubleshooting

If ChatGPT is taking a very long time to respond or not responding at all then it could mean that their servers are currently overloaded. You can confirm this by going to chat.openai.com/chat and seeing whether their website works directly.

Plugins

Plugins have the ability to inform ChatGPT of specific conversation rules and parse replies from ChatGPT before they are sent to the browser.

Default - Sets some default conversation rules 🧑‍🏫

Image - Tells ChatGPT to describe things visually when asked for an image and then replaces the description with a matching AI generated image from Lexica 📸

Upgrade to latest chatgpt-api

The latest version on https://github.com/transitive-bullshit/chatgpt-api uses a captcha solver to get around Cloudflare protection and make requests to ChatGPT. If anyone wants to tackle this a pull request is greatly appreciated.

Create .env on Mac Ventura 13.0

Hello, I am looking for a little help when creating the .env file. I did all the correct installs with npm yet I did not get a .env-example file in the install. And MacOS is not allowing me to create a .env file using TextEdit and the markdown(?) information provided in here: https://github.com/gragland/chatgpt-chrome-extension/blob/main/.env.example

Thanks for the extension! 🙌
After a lot of fiddling (cursed be Windows!) I managed to get the server.js running

✔ Connecting to ChatGPT
✔ Training ChatGPT (5 plugin rules)
✔ You may now use the extension,

and the extension installed, but then when I try using the extension via the right-click, I get the error on the screenshot below. The bottom one on the first run, then the top one on every next one.

Do you know what might be causing it?

Error when running server.js on localhost:3000 "Cannot GET /"

When I try running node server.js from the Terminal in the folder the extension is unzipped to, I get the following error:

There appears to be an issue with the second step of the sever initialization.

Although I tried implementing a solution found here: Error: ChatGPTAPI error 429, it doesn't seem to fix the issue. Anyone else ran into this?

Description

OpenAI has API Support where authentication is performed with an API Key. This form of authentication and interaction would actually be better than using Email Address and Password Credentials, especially since OpenAI supports OAuth with Google, thus eliminating users who use this auth method from using this extension.

Hello,
I would like to use this extension, however, I am unable to log in to my ChatGPT account using a password as I have set it up with Google Authentication. Could you please advise on what password I should set in the .env file? I have tried using my Google password, but it resulted in a failed authentication process and the headless browser was closed.

getOpenAIAuth-Having issues getting my session ID

Hello. I am quite new to this, and an old fart. I am trying to follow the instructions for aquiring my session id from Chatgpt, but I simply am getting lost.

I am on Windows 10, and succesfully installed the puppeteer, just stuck on how exaclty to use it to get my session id?

Could you provide more details on the first and second step of getting this extension to work it would be helpful for non technical folks as i am struggling.

Error: ChatGPT failed to refresh auth token. Error: 403 Forbidden

Being thrown this error, not sure if it is to do with new Cloudflare protections.

I am receiving both of these errors in my chrome extension. The app runs after node server.js. Shows

but when I run ask gpt, the extension shows the below two errors:
