A Drupal 8 base theme using the DTA's UI Kit.

Design System Base Theme

This is a Drupal 8 base theme using the DTA's Design System components.

Please note it is not useful on its own; it will require a sub-theme to actually provide some styling.

The main purpose of this theme is to provide site-wide theme overrides to generate Design System-suitable HTML rather than any specific styling.

dta-uikit-base's Issues

Theme needs a horizontal menu style

UI Kit does not supply a horizontal menu style. This can be based on the horizontal link list and formatted as a

element. Presumably it will include drop down styles and will need to respond to changes in screen size. The 'Superfish' library or similar can most likely be used to provide functionality within Drupal.

Avoid hardcoded crest

The base theme will need a crest. Because we want to distribute this theme, the end users need a way to select their own crest. This functionality has already been created in https://github.com/govau/govCMS8-ui/tree/logo-admin-ui and needs to be pulled over.

Ensure HTML for components matches Design System.

While the style matches, there may be occasions where the HTML of components does not match that of the UI Kit/Design System. Theme files will need to be re-written to make them the same.

Messages need to be made into UI Kit callouts

Messages are currently unformatted and not very obvious. They should be wrapped in callout boxes.

Add respond.js

The UI Kit requires respond.js to support browsers back to IE8. The site needs to include respond.js.

It also requires the x-ua-compatible meta tag.

Theme needs a header

The base theme currently has no header. We need to add the relevant UI Kit files and add the header content.

Create base theme

The site requires two themes:

• A base theme built as a sub theme of Classy or Stable incorporating the UI Kit 2.0. This will be for distribution across our networks.
• A sub theme on top of the base theme for the site itself.
  This repository will deal with the first.

First off we need to have the base theme installed and running from the deployment site.

Theme needs a screen shot

Looks goofy without a screen shot.

Incorporate UI Kit

The base theme will need to incorporate the UI Kit.

Crummy confirmation message on subscription form

When users subscribe to the site, the confirmation message is very small and easily missed.

Missing twig templates and classes for html5 elements

There are no twig templates for date, tel and number inputs as a result the fields render as browser default

Add a local build process

The theme will need a local build process to compile Sass, JS and so on. Early indications are that we will use gulp.js.
