I was looking for something that I could use like this (rough example):
brightness=$(how-bright.sh) vimAnd within vim and some vimscript I'd set my colorscheme based on output of how-bright.sh.
But before I go exploring this project of yours, I was curious if this is basically how it can function. Not using it as a daemon, but just running it to obtain a measurement.
