I have figured out that this is due to how the serial receive is handled. The current code requires knowing in advance the exact number of bytes the response from the remote device will be. This is not always possible with device id commands or user functions. Can the serial receive code be changed to have a serial timeout after the stop bit is received and process the variable length message?
