How do I get it?

You can download the latest version from the release page.

The Microsoft Store's RoundedTB is not mine. It's the original version.

Known issues

  • Auto-hiding compatibillity. (Widnows taskbar setting)
    • not working.
  • Windows 10.
    • Windows 10 has not been verified. Probably will no longer be supported.
  • TranslucentTB compatibility.
  • Rounded corners are not antialiased.
    • Due to a Windows limitation. (#4)
  • Dynamic mode won't hide the left side of the taskbar if fisrst started(the taskbar alignment has never been changed).
    • This can be worked around by changing the alignment to Left and back to Center. (#98)
  • When using dynamic mode, the taskbar may occasionally become too large, too small or not update.
    • This can usually be fixed by moving a window to or from that monitor or briefly changing the taskbar alignment.
  • Dynamic mode may not be released when RoundedTB is exited.
    • Restarting RoundedTB doesn't help, try restarting the PC.
  • The top of the taskbar is not rounded.
    • Set the top margin to a larger value (30-50?) , you can adjust the appearance in that session. But it may be a different value when restarted the Windows.

Other info

RoundedTB was created by torchgm. thanks.

https://github.com/RoundedTB/RoundedTB

torchgm says "RoundedTB is just a hobby of mine, and I'm certainly not an expert in this field, so I'm really sorry if you encounter a bug!". me too.

If anything breaks catastrophically, press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager, end RoundedTB and then restart Explorer. At worst, just reboot your PC. RoundedTB makes no permanent changes (though it will run on startup if you enable it from the tray icon), so restarting should clear any issues.

roundedtb's Issues

Dynamic mode is not applied during taskbar auto-hide if two monitors are vertically stacked

Here is a screen recording demonstrating the issue. https://github.com/Gniang/RoundedTB/assets/22858651/f7ea3cdf-7ae1-4819-9f56-ee042a2dab5f

I have a secondary monitor stacked below a primary monitor as follows.

display_conf

When a taskbar starts to hide, it loses the rounded styling enforced by RoundedTB. This is demonstrated in the screen recording above. (The recording only shows the content of the primary monitor)

If I remove the secondary monitor, the auto-hide animation is as expected, nice and smooth.
I would greatly appreciate if you could have a look on this issue. I can try to debug on my computer if an appropriate pointers are provided.

Thank you for maintaining a fork and reading this!

MS Store

the original repo have been archived and so will these changes be updated on ms store version and if not then something like an installer and rainmeter skin of this would be nice

Issues with RoundedTB_canary20230929

With RoundedTB_canary20230929, even though there is some support for the 23H2 update it is not fully fixed yet as my 2 side monitors still have the "missing icon" problem, though main monitor has been fixed. As you can see my left and right taskbars go down to one icon when more than 1 program is open on either side. (eg. Chrome and file explorer makes this happen for this instance shown):

Untitled1

Also, ever since this canary build started back in March 2023, I have had an issue (again on my side monitors), where if the taskbar/file explorer refreshes it makes the taskbars on the left and right side go full (but rounded as if dynamic won't work on side monitors) and I have to drag a open program over to each monitor to fix it again:

Untitled

And lastly, with RoundedTB_canary20230929 came a few bugs:

  1. Where if file explorer restarts (eg. If I force it to restart after file explorer hangs/freezes), it will completely crash and shut off RoundedTB to where I can't re-open RoundedTB until I full reboot my PC (this did not happen with previous build from last week).

  2. I notice that all programs/windows open on main monitor will overlap the main taskbar if program is dragged to bottom of the screen (side monitors are not affected by this and act as they should with the "taskbar always on top of other programs" rule).

Hopefully these issues can be fixed for new build.

random crashing

self explanatory - the app runs for a while, and decides to randomly crash after a while.
(perhaps, this is something to do with dynamic mode - showing segments when hovered?)
i am on windows 11 23H2.
i assume this app is no longer maintained - does anyone have a better alternative?

Autohide

Can we have that custom autohide function mentioned in known issues?

System tray won't show up, and RoundedTB main window can't be open neither

I unchecked the option of "When a window is maximised restored the task bar" and "When alt+tab is pressed restored the task bar" option, in the meantime I uncheck the "Show tray" option.

Now my system tray is permanately gone, for any way I tried, I can't restore the system tray. I tried to rerun the RoundedTB program but it doesn't show up as configuration dialog as it first ran.

RoundedTB suddenly stopped working

I guess my Windows 11 silently updated, and now RoundedTB is not working again, neither dynamic mode or corner roundness options...

Restarting Explorer causes width detection failure

Where if file explorer restarts (eg. If I force it to restart after file explorer hangs/freezes), it will completely crash and shut off >RoundedTB to where I can't re-open RoundedTB until I full reboot my PC (this did not happen with previous build from last week).

When taskbar window handle is not available, recreate the automation element.

App won't launch

Idk if it is only me but everytime I try to open it it won't open and translucent flyouts crashes

Dynamic mode not working

hi - came here since latest Windows update brought me to a state where original RoundedTB stopped working (showed only one app icon actually - I fully understand this is unintended from changes MS has brought along).

my use case: centered taskbar, dynamic mode on, single monitor - many virtual desktops.

I loved that. (Not even a mac-head). But can't get that working on the latest release here... when I select dynamic mode and apply it just makes the area where the "widget" button is invisible (since I don't use it). the rest is still (almost) a full taskbar.

rounding and margins seems to work, it's just not shrinking the "background")

UNLESS, and this is where it's weird - when I change virtual desktop it sometimes works. sometimes it shrinks TOO much (i.e. removing icons that should be there) and then sometimes just seems to not work at all... so yea, can't say this works fully yet :D

just thought I'd raise the issue - seems there are MANY different preferred use cases here... :)

if there's a log mode or something I'd be willing to do some more experimenting - but for now I'm forced OFF roundedtb in any form... :-/

Crashes after almost any settings changes

I can crash the settings UI very easily and in many ways. I'm not sure if I should write separate reports so I'll write one and if it is known/same/useless just nuke it.

I've repeated the following several times: Uninstalled old version (both original and forked canary builds). Removed JSON files. Verified files/folders are removed. Checked registry for any remnants. Installed RoundedTB_canary20231016_2

A few:

  • Change value of just right margin. Crash. (the value is saved and respected after subsequent loading)
  • delete all values for margins (I assumed it would reset to default) Crash.
  • Select Help, Help and Information, click "the RoundedTB Github repository" Crash.
  • sometimes invoking/closing the configuration screen repeatedly seems to cause a crash.

After a crash there is no roundedtb background process. I have to restart windows every time.

I've used it for weeks after the crash/settings/reboot cycles and as long as I don't change anything it works fine. Occasionally a settings change works without crashing but more often than not it doesn't.

Windows flashing on startup

First, thanks for forking. I love RoundedTB and was disappointed when it stopped working.

When you run the current canary build several windows flash on the screen as it is invoked. This isn't a huge issue but it is distracting and unappealing for the first start. The old version didn't do this.

Unable to open the exe

I am trying to open the RoundedTB.exe on the canary build, but the process is not starting.

Taskbar is not drawn in front, there may be instances when overlay apps without "always on top"

#7

For the second issue, if I shut off RoundedTB, I have no issues with programs/apps overlapping the taskbar so it does not seem to be a windows issue from what I am experiencing. It only happens when I have RoundedTB enabled. It does not happen all the time but only some of the time. I have noticed that Google Chrome and Windows Explorer do this often but not all the time.

It may be worth noting that I do have Start11 and ExplorerPatcher installed on top of RoundedTB. Prior to the 23H2 preview update, I had no issues with these programs installed using your canary builds. I have tested disabling these programs with only RoundedTB enabled and I still have overlapping issues only when RoundedTB is enabled.

You may have to test the overlapping issue over a course of a few days using the Windows File Explorer and Google Chrome and see if you catch the issue. If you still can't find the issue, I will try to record the behavior the next time it happens.

Running app icons in the central bar are frequently disappearing

Running apps icon after some time will disappear, altough the space in the icon bar is still there and the dot on the bottom to indicate there's a running app there. So the app can still be switched to, but the icon to identify which app is running there is no longer around.

Crashes on boot

I have already tried doing the same thing said in the readme but it didn't help sadly

[BUG] Built-in Auto-Hide not working sometimes

I want to report an issue with the latest version of RoundedTB Canary that has to do with strange/unpredictable behavior of the Auto-Hide setting.

Steps to reproduce:

  • Enable Dynamic mode
  • Have 'When a window is maximized, restore the Taskbar' setting set to on
  • Enable Auto Hide in RoundedTB settings
  • Click on 'Apply' everything works fine (the taskbar fades out as expected)

imagen

If you maximize a window after that, the taskbar will be filled and when you minimize/restore that window it won't auto-hide anymore.

I'm also using a second monitor, I don't know if that might contribute somehow to this bug

Request: minimize to tray

Hey i love the work you've done and the fixes to the original.

I wanted to request minimize to tray.

Right now when you minimize it minimizes to the taskbar. But you don't want it there all the time, so you click exit, which on the original used to not exit the app but place it in the tray. Instead now it exits the app.

So the only way to make changes, and not have it open in your taskbar is to make the changes. Exit the app. Then re-open the app again, which opens in the tray, and not on the taskbar.

Run at startup causes Windows exception

In version 22631.2506 of Windows 11 23H2, using Run at startup causes the taskbar and Start menu to be unusually stuck or unresponsive.
Interestingly, though, you don't have this problem if you manually start RoundedTB after booting up.

I haven't found a pattern to this bug, and it's even a bit hard to reproduce, but it's always there somehow.
I think it might be caused by the fact that RoundedTB starts before explorer.exe (this is just my personal guess).
Maybe it should be a delayed start after boot?

Can't open file!

Microsoft Defender SmartScreen can't recognize the app and will stop this application from running. tried everything i could think of including extraction.

RoundedTB does not open.

I have a 64bit laptop and roundedTB can. does not open. Even when you try to run it as an administrator.
