open-in-browser's Issues

Not possible to share image from gallery

Original report by Denis Nelubin (Bitbucket: gelin, GitHub: gelin).

Hello,

I need to open in browser the pictures that I share from gallery or other image editors, but the application does not appear on the list. It appears only when I open a picture from a file browser.

What can I do? There is another app for this? Can you make an option to show this app at any picture (or file) sharing (not only from file browsers)?

Open HTML from Gmail

Original report by Denis Nelubin (Bitbucket: gelin, GitHub: gelin).

What steps will reproduce the problem?

  1. Receive an HTML file by gmail
  2. Open the email in the GMail app
  3. Click on the HTML attachment
  4. Select a browser (Chrome, Firefox) in the Open-in-browser prompt

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected: Chrome/Firefox is launched displaying the attached HTML file.
Actual: error saying "Cannot open this file"

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Open in Browser: 0.0.4
Samsung S3 with default Samsung Android 4.1.2

Please provide any additional information below.
It works with HTMLs from the filesystem.

Shortcut to HTML file on the home screen

Original report by Denis Nelubin (Bitbucket: gelin, GitHub: gelin).

With open-in-browser v0.0.3, one can not create shortcut on the home screen to quickly open HTML file. Creating a shortcut on the home screen with stock Android Internet browser ends up with "Application is not installed" error when trying to launch it.

What about improving open-in-browser to add the possibility to create a shortcut to HTML file on the home screen, it would be faster than opening a file manager, locate the HTML file and then open it.

XHTML, XML, SVG, MathML, ... not handled

Original report by Guillaume (Bitbucket: guillaume-d, GitHub: guillaume-d).

Adding the application/xhtml+xml, text/xml (and possibly application/xml) MIME types to the Android manifest file should be enough to support opening files having the "xhtml" and "xml" extensions that Open in Browser currently does not support.

The same goes for:

  • SVG (image/svg+xml) probably with the "svg" extension
  • MathML (application/mathml+xml) if some Android supports that (Firefox?)
  • and possibly other XML-based formats that might be viewed offline I cannot think of.

Resilio Connect integration

Original report by Denis Nelubin (Bitbucket: gelin, GitHub: gelin).

Would it be possible for you to add support for opening html files in the Resilio Connect Android agent folder window?

I will be distributing free mother tongue literacy curriculum worldwide using Resilio Connect. It would be nice if kids could just click on the content html files in the Resilio Connect folder and open directly in Firefox. As it is they will have to use a file explorer ...to find the files on their extSD. Not so simple for a 1st grader.

No permissions on Pixel 3

Original report by Denis Nelubin (Bitbucket: gelin, GitHub: gelin).

Hey for some reason on my Pixel 3 with the default Chrome browser files won't load saying it has permission issues, I'm running Android 10. I have a Pixel 1 XL with android 10 in it as well and there are no issues with it, files open in Chrome no problem.

Add browser?

after installing open in browser app, when i'm offline, i cant access the sidebar of offline documentation of developers.android. uninstalled it, then it works again. pls check if your app really caused this.
i have a suggestion; why not make a good for viewing offline web pages browser that has 1hand zooming and other good controls. or a browser integrated with editor, so we can develop simple webpage in our fone and also it can help students that want to learn web dev. some students want to learn but they don't have computer to practice their skill.
