org.gnome.epiphany's Issues

Add site to desktop broken

Ctrl + Shift + A should open a prompt to add an icon of the opened web page to the desktop. It doesnt.

When I press these keys, nothing happens.

I have checked it's only occuring from the flatpack release. Works fine if Epiphany is installed by RPM.

I don't know if it's possible to do such a trick from inside a flatpak contained app, but I have hope it is! 🙏
I'm on fedora (Linux fedora 5.13.7-200.fc34.x86_64)

Viewing page source does not work

When I click the "View page source" button, a XDG portal dialog is shown, asking which browser I want to use to view some local, generated html file. When I select Web, the original page is opened, but without any CSS or images. It looks like Epiphany in Flatpak is generating this garbled html file instead of the correct file containing the visualised source code.

Versions differ from flathub and gitlab

The flatpak version of epiphany is 3.36.2 while the gitlab version is 3.36.4. Maybe the automatic updates are not working so well or are not implemented for the stable release.

I reported on GNOMES's GitLab, Versions differ from flathub and gitlab, about this problem and was requested to post here. The interesting thing is the recommendation in README.md to install the "latest" stable version under flatpak.

Private mode does keep history

Hello, I am on Web 41.3 Flatpak version.
In private mode, it is said :
You are currently browsing in private mode. The pages consulted in this way do not appear in your browsing history and any information in memory will be destroyed when you close the window.

However, if I go on History menu I have all my browsing experience even after closing the window.
Could you please check and feedback if this issue is confirmed on your side ? Thank you very much

Firefox Sync feature broken by D-Bus session bus being off

Problem : When connecting to Firefox sync , you get something like org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown
Because of that, it's impossible to sync

Found a fix
Works for me :

  1. Install Flatseal flatpak install flathub com.github.tchx84.Flatseal
  2. Run Flatseal flatpak run com.github.tchx84.Flatseal
  3. Go to Gnome web / epiphany tab
  4. Enable D-Bus session bus option
  5. Restart Gnome web app

All done.
If I have time, I'll try to code a pull request for it to be a default option, but I honestly have no idea of how to do it now.

Doesn't run on Mobian

It seems this Flatpak doesn't run on Mobian, a version of Debian for mobile Linux devices. The Debian package runs just fine, but this Flatpak repeatedly displays this issue in the Terminal:

(epiphany:2): epiphany-WARNING **: 09:25:31.593: Web process crashed
flatpak-spawn: Invalid byte sequence in conversion input
Try "flatpak-spawn --help" for more information.

Password manager not working

Referencing #3, I can also report that the password manager is currently not working in elementaryOS 5.1.4. (Hera). Epiphany Version is 3.36.1 (Flathub) and xdg-desktop-portal 1.6 is installed. Epiphany offers to store passwords, but there is no data shown in the settings menu.

New screnshots

Hey, I have these screenshots (attached) that I think are better than the current one because they are more updated and align more on how the app looks now. If its OK to update them, can you please point me to the appdata XML source or update them?

Can't save passwords

Using Endless OS 3.3.12 I can't save passwords using Epiphany. I have Firefox account sync set up and the journal has a lot of 'Failed to store password record for xxxx timeout was reached' and 'Failed to search secrets in password secrets timeout was reached' records. I also get an "Invalid unclassed pointer in cast to 'EphyPasswordsDialog'"

It's entirely possible that this is due to a 'too old' or 'too wrong' host system in some fashion. Very happy to try and fix that.

Cannot store bookmarks

So far so good, but storing bookmarks seems not to work. Neither the star icon nor the shortcut are working.

I am running the following.

OS: Fedora 32 Silverblue
Flatpak: flatpak-1.8.2-2.fc32.x86_64

Cannot open/find downloaded files

When I download a file, everything is alright from UI, but clicking the file does nothing and nor does clicking the folder icon.

I tried doing a system-wide search for the file (including hidden files) but with no result. Downloading two files adds a “(1)” at the end.

v40 not working at all

2021-03-28 20-19-32 ekran görüntüsü

On both elementary OS 5.1 and 6 it stays like this but idk if it's anything with the elementary OS or the flatpak version itself.

Terminal output:
`(epiphany:2): epiphany-WARNING **: 20:20:43.138: Web process crashed
flatpak-spawn: Invalid byte sequence in conversion input
Try "flatpak-spawn --help" for more information.

Note that the directories

'/var/lib/flatpak/exports/share'
'/home/veysel/.var/app/org.gnome.Epiphany/data/flatpak/exports/share'

are not in the search path set by the XDG_DATA_DIRS environment variable, so
applications installed by Flatpak may not appear on your desktop until the
session is restarted.

Launching from a terminal using flatpak run org.gnome.Epiphany works fine.

I see the same behaviour on both my machines and I confirmed on the second that I could still launch Web via the icon on the second machine before upgrading to 44.

I have tried another application (org.gnome.TextEditor) using the 44 runtime to confirm that it can launch from the desktop entry successfully.

I have tried completely removing and reinstalling Web.

I'm using Debian 11.6 with Flatpak 1.10.7.

I'm not sure what to try next and would welcome advice!

Cheers,
Phil

release includes unnecessary files

in this flatpak, there's:

  • /app/bin/granite-7-demo (with broken stylesheet)
  • /app/lib/pkgconfig: granite-7.pc libportal-gtk4.pc libportal.pc
  • /app/lib/debug/ (empty folder)
  • /app/include/ (headers for libportal and granite)
  • some stuff in share too

Doesn't stop running in the background

Every time Epiphany is started, a new epiphany process is created. These don't stop when the program is closed, so I end up with many epiphany processes running at once.

Flatpak doesn't work in dark mode

Attempting to switch to "Dark Mode" in the latest Flatpak leaves it in light mode. Do not experience this problem with native version. Installed 1.10.7 on Debian Bullseye.
