run's Issues

Using BaseWindow inheritance

The BaseWindow does not work when inheriting for a runbox window due to

WinRT information: Unable to cast object of type 'WinRT.IInspectable' to type 'Microsoft.UI.Xaml.Controls.Button'.

For now all code is in the mainwindow but it should ideally move to base window for titlebar and close button

Text field not cleared

If closing the run dialog with the x, the contents of the text field are not cleared and are still present when re-opening the run dialog

Some minor cosmetic suggestions

  1. Add an option to always align the window to the default bottom left corner (or some other places)
  2. Add an "Cancel" button like the original Run dialog
  3. Change the window title to just "Run"

Please don't have people install a custom root certificate

It is a really bad practice to install custom root certificates, unless it is on a test machine or from somewhere you really trust.
Doing this will allow anything signed with that certificate to be trusted by the entire system.

Telling people to install from the store is the way to go.
If not, have them generate their own certificate and sign it with that - or use a trusted code signing certificate to sign the msix package, so people don't have to trust a custom root certificate.

Disable Spellcheck

I ran into a few commands like "shell:startup" that were spellchecked and automatically "corrected".
I think that this is not very nice for a command runner.

suggestion

add the option for run to start on system startup

Refactoring

To do:

Dragging window issue + Crashing

Yeah the title pretty much explained what's going on. This is what i'm having to dealt with:

Start Menu App Pinning Bug: Missing App Names on Start

Dear Developer,

I wanted to report a bug related to the pinning functionality in the Start menu. When I pin the Run app, the app name is not showing up. This issue makes it difficult to quickly identify and access pinned apps, resulting in a less user-friendly experience.

Run (Start)

I kindly request your team to investigate and resolve this bug, as it significantly impacts the usability of the Start menu😊

Certificate expired

The certificate for the modern run menu is expired it says that the certificate validation date is from 4 of April 2022 to 4th of April 2023. Now It is past April and it can't be installed anymore... :(

Store release feature grind

  • Themes documentation and adding theme support
  • Keyboard shortcuts customization
  • Systay flyout
  • Administrator mode
  • Mostafa Walid Run
  • Search indexing??

Improve light mode

The "Run" button appears darker than normal in Light mode. This does not happen in Dark mode.

Here's the introduction window getting stuck

If I decide to close the introduction window and try to relaunch the app, it starts in the background but crashes after 2-3 seconds.

Close with pressing Escape on Keyboard

The original app closes by pressing escape on it. I, as an "every day" user of this dialog, am very used to this behavior and I think this should be supported by this app too.

Opening an app using path in folder with space won't work without quoting

Heya! I just recently discovered a path bug to run executable on folder with spaces. Basically the program said that it didn't find matching path unless you explicitly quote the path "...". However, if we compare it with Microsoft's run context, it does run like what user expect.

If we remove executable name (for example: GenshinImpact.exe), it will successfully launch explorer with desired folder path instead.

Add new "Run" shortcut feature creator

Basically by adding a link shortcut to any location,/ program to the Windows with a unique name, a custom command can be created which is supported in cmd, regular run, search and this run app.

(Feature Request) Allow setting a custom OpenAI API endpoint to experiment with locally hosted LLMs

Some open-source, locally run LLMs have the capability to emulate key features of the OpenAI API to "appear" to an application as GPT. Can you add support for a custom API endpoint to experiment with this and see if the performance of something like WizardLM or Falcon may be up to the task of generating commands?
I would then envision an input field in the Settings window with the default OpenAI API endpoint URL replaceable with your own.
