puppet-timezone's Introduction

Deprecation notice

This module was designed for Puppet versions 2 and 3. It should work also on Puppet 4 but doesn't use any of its features.

The current Puppet 3 compatible codebase is no longer actively maintained by example42.

Still, Pull Requests that fix bugs or introduce backwards compatible features will be accepted.

Puppet module: timezone

This is a Puppet module for timezone management, based on the second generation layout ("NextGen") of Example42 Puppet Modules.

Made by Alessandro Franceschi / Lab42

Official site: http://www.example42.com

Official git repository: http://github.com/example42/puppet-timezone

Released under the terms of Apache 2 License.

This module requires functions provided by the Example42 Puppi module (you need it even if you don't use and install Puppi)

For detailed info about the logic and usage patterns of Example42 modules check the DOCS directory on Example42 main modules set.

USAGE

  • Set the desired timezone

      class { 'timezone':
        timezone => 'Europe/Rome',
      }

Alternatively you can define the ::timezone top scope variable somewhere (in an ENC) and just:

    $::timezone = 'Europe/Rome'
    include timezone
  • Specify if hardware clock uses GMT (default is 'false' and localtime is used)

      class { 'timezone':
        timezone => 'Europe/Rome',
        hw_utc   => true,
      }

    or:

      $::timezone = 'Europe/Rome'
      $::timezone_hw_utc = true
      include timezone

  • Use custom template for timezone config file. Refer to $config_file in params.pp to see what's actually the file managed. Note that template and source arguments are alternative.

      class { 'timezone':
        template => 'example42/timezone/timezone.conf.erb',
      }

  • Automatically include a custom subclass

      class { 'timezone':
        my_class => 'example42::my_timezone',
      }

puppet-timezone's Issues

Amazon Linux needs a template or to use another template

facter on an Amazon Linux instance reports operatingsystem as 'Amazon'. There is no template called 'timezone-Amazon'.

Since Amazon Linux is essentially a Red Hat variant, I'd be happy if it got the 'timezone-RedHat' template.

Missing my_class in params.pp

Under puppet-agent 4.5.0 and puppetserver 2.4.0 it seems the missing my_class='' in params.pp causes an evaluation error occurs similar to the following:

Error: Could not retrieve catalog from remote server: Error 400 on SERVER: Evaluation Error: Error while evaluating a Function Call, integer 2646058340 too big to convert to 'int' at /etc/puppetlabs/code/environments/production/modules/timezone/manifests/init.pp:63:27 on node test.example.com

The integer value changes every run, so I imagine this is due to my_class not being defined anywhere yet still compiling and trying to eval.

Seeing as most of your other modules have my_class = '' in params.pp I've added it and the problem is resolved. I'll make a PR for this momentarily.
