I haven't tested the app with any custom roms ... I'm guessing its something
other
component causing problems (either some aspect of the custom rom or another
app) -
not ruling out SMS Popup being the problem, but the "delete" SMS code is only
called
when the user clicks the delete button - the only other code that writes to the
SMS
database only changes the "read" flag on messages (not sure if that could
somehow
cause complications..).

Update this bug if/when you find out if it happens with 0.9.97 as well ...
would be
useful to know if you have any other apps that use the system SMS database as
well.

Thanks!

Well I'm on day 3 of .97 and everything is fine, no deleted texts, just the
usual bugs of .97 that I've
grown accustomed to. It could be the mms apk that is included with Cyanogen's
ROM's. If you wanna
check it out for yourself hit up xda developers. Let me know if you need any
other help from me
narrowing down this issue.

I just downloaded 1.0.1, lemme see if that fixes it. Are you using a G1 or a
MT3G
Macarse?

Running .97 I have no deleted texts, I switched to 1.0.1 and today I hit reply
and sure enough the text
that I was hitting reply to was gone, it had been deleted.

Do you want a logcat or something to figure out why this is happening?

If you use cyanogen you have an app called LogCollector.
Please, try to do this:

 * Use your phone until you get this bug again.
 * When it happens open LogCollector, get the device log and upload here.

Thanks!

Here's my log, finally got one!

So all I did was hit reply, the text that was in the preview window was deleted
once
the messaging app pulled up. Let me know if you need anything else from me.

Are you by any chance using a custom XDA messaging app on Cyanogens rom?
Someone
else reported this and was using what he said was an enhanced version of the
messaging app from XDA on Cyanogens rom?

Side note: your phone appears to be running very low on memory, the logs show
many
processes constantly being killed off due to lack of memory and then being
restarted
later (which is how the system behaves in low memory situations). It could be
because of this that messages are being deleted ... it probably isn't due to
SMS
Popup, more likely due to another part of the system.

Oh just clarified, it isn't a custom messaging app, its just the regular one
with
"tweaks" put in place which I guess comes standard with Cyanogens rom ... I'm
guessing
the deletions are due to some sort of low memory race conditions happening when
a
message is received ... I doubt it's directly SMS Popup's fault (as NO delete
code runs
unless the user clicks the delete button) - but it could be due to SMS Popup
using up
some memory when a message is received and the system messaging receiver
running out of
memory to save the message.

I was having trouble with this on CyanogenMod 4.2.3.1 on my G1 in the US. I
upgraded
to 4.2.5 today and texted myself from my Google Voice account. Close, Inbox and
Reply
(not Quick Reply, I switched its function) all seemed to work fine, the
messages all
appeared in my Messaging inbox. Perhaps this has been resolved.

Interesting ... one change in CyanogenMod 4.2.4 was:
"Lock Home in Memory" is OFF by default!! Enable in Spare Parts

Locking home screen in memory is great because it means the home screen always
loads
quickly - however the downside is it uses up a ton of memory, which means
background
processes are continually getting killed off (was running with this myself for
a
while and saw this in the logs). Perhaps this was causing the problems?

If anyone is still experiencing this issue please go to Spare Parts and turn
off
"Lock Home in Memory" for now to see if that helps.

It's very hard for us to support CyanogenMod changes that happen behind the
scenes
without proper emulator/development support. Your best bet to getting these
issues
sorted is to post in the forums and make the folks that build the Cyanogen roms
aware
of the issue and perhaps find out what tweaks/changes they made to the
messaging app.

SMS Popup should work far more reliably on the stock Android roms (and it was
built
and tested to work on these roms).

Figured out how to fix "deleting texts" in CM7. In RC2 (and I would assume in
Final, but I haven't upgraded yet), go to CyanogenMod Settings. In "Performance
settings," check "Lock Messaging App in Memory." I haven't had any of my texts
deleted since. Sometimes the SMS Popup notifications don't appear, but I'll
assume it's CM7's fault, perhaps a memory overflow precaution.
