comskip's Issues

libavuti* packages not found during autogen.sh

I recieved the following error while running autogen.sh on Ubuntu 14

configure: error: Package requirements (libavutil >= 54.7 libavformat >= 56.4 libavcodec >= 56.1) were not met:

No package 'libavutil' found
No package 'libavformat' found
No package 'libavcodec' found

If I run the following comand before autogen, it works fine
export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/opt/ffmpeg/lib/pkgconfig

configure error building on ubuntu trusty

I successfully ran through these commands
https://github.com/erikkaashoek/Comskip#ubuntu-trusty-1404
Then attempted to build from git
https://github.com/erikkaashoek/Comskip#building-from-github
(I also installed the required GNU autotools)

Now when running ./configure i get this error:

configure: error: Package requirements (libavutil >= 54.7 libavformat >= 56.4 libavcodec >= 56.1) were not met:
Requested 'libavutil >= 54.7' but version of libavutil is 52.3.0
Requested 'libavformat >= 56.4' but version of libavformat is 54.20.4
Requested 'libavcodec >= 56.1' but version of libavcodec is 54.35.0

But running sudo apt-get install libavutil-dev states that

"libavutil-dev is already the newest version."

Same with the other two libraries. What am i missing here?
I realize this is not an issue with the Comskip code, but possibly the configure script or at the very least it might be helpful to have some more clarification in the ReadMe->Setting up build environment section as to what other dependencies are necessary and where to get the required versions.

Thanks

Logo Detected, even if Logo Usage Disabled

Hi,

Perhaps I'm missing something, but it seems like comskip goes through a logo detection process (at the start), even if logo detection is not to be used ... am I right?

Thanks!

MacPorts-Failure

In following your readme.md (Mac OS X):

I downloaded Macports and run "sudo port install ffmeg coreutils argtable:

Receive the following:

What else should I be doing?

My ultimate goal is to run comskip on a Qnap. Am a total code newbie with no clue as to these processes, although I was able to run essandess etv-comskip (produced edl file) against EyeTV files when transcoding to iPad format.

Getting a buffer overflow.

On Ubuntu 16.04. While processing Marvel Agents of SHIELD.

Comskip 0.81.089, made using ffmpeg
Donator build
The commandline used was:
comskip --ini=/root/.comskip.ini file.mp4

Setting ini file to /root/.comskip.ini as per commandline
Using /root/.comskip.ini for initiation values.

Comskip Aborts

I'm using Comskip in conjunction to EyeTV through etv-comskip supported by essandess.

It seems to be working flawlessly in nearly every recording except for 1 show in particular, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. When I navigate to the .eyetv file and ls -l I can see the .edl file does not exist.

Because comskip never fully completes the .edl file is never created and MarkCommercials can't operate correctly.

Cross compile error bad instruction `int3'

I'm doing a attempt to cross compile comskip for Synology (SynoCommunity) and ran into this issue.

/home/openelec/github/spksrc/toolchains/syno-alpine-5.2/work/arm-linux-gnueabihf/bin/arm-linux-gnueabihf-gcc -c -I/home/openelec/github/spksrc/spk/comskip/work-alpine-5.2/install//usr/local/comskip/include -g -pipe -Wall -W -Wno-address -Wno-unused-parameter -Wno-unused-label -Wno-unused-result -O2 -DDONATOR -DPROCESS_CC -I. -o mpeg2dec.o mpeg2dec.c
{standard input}: Assembler messages:
{standard input}:2968: Error: bad instruction `int3'
make[3]: *** [mpeg2dec.o] Error 1

Any idea what could be wrong here?

OSX Mac built not working

I am working to resolve this but my Makefile experience is 15 years out of date :)

comskip.c:17:10: fatal error: 'argtable2.h' file not found

include <argtable2.h>

tried
make INCLUDES="-I/usr/local/opt/ffmpeg/include:-I./vendor:/usr/local/include" LIBS="-L/usr/local/opt/ffmpeg/lib" SHLIBS="-lavutil.ffmpeg -lavformat.ffmpeg -lavcodec.ffmpeg -largtable2"
no luck yet.

Stop in /comskiplinux/Comskip-master.

So I've tried compiling in a FreeBSD jail both via the above master.zip method and the direct git clone git://github.com/erikkaashoek/Comskip and in both cases I get the above error. I think it is due to the extra space in the comskip-myth.o portion. However I don't know enough to know what to do next.

Speed Doubt

Hi,

By the first time, i would want to appreciate the work of the project. I have already use it and it's fantastic. Thanks you very much.

My goal is detect commercial breaks in h264 videos and I have a doubt related with the speed.

In my tests, I have seen that the speed in my Linux computer is ~80fps and I want to know if it's the maximum speed for this kind of video codec (h.264).

With other videos (MPEG2), the normal speed is approximately 600-800fps.

If it's the normal speed, what do you recommend me for decrease the analysis time? Maybe decode the video to MPEG2?

Thanks you very much and I repeat, I appreciate your work very much.

Permission to distribute

First off, great work on Comskip!

I've been working on a docker service that combines plex and comskip (and a few other things) to produce a simple to use plex implementation complete with automatic commercial marking/cutting and transcoding.

I've published my build files on github here.

What I provide at this point is a dockerfile and a set of scripts that will build a container that includes comskip built directly from your github repo. What I'd really like to do is set up an automated build on the dockerhub for a complete container that includes a pre-built comskip.

Before I do that I wanted to make sure it was okay with you. I'm not really sure what license you provide the source code, but I figure its best to make sure its okay with you before I proceed.

Won't install on Ubuntu 16.04

I'm looking to run Comskip on my Ubuntu server that has Plex and TVheadend running. I notice the Linux installatio instructions stop at Vivid Vervet. I have tried running with these instructions, but ./Configure falls over with the following error:-

./configure: line 3789: PKG_PROG_PKG_CONFIG: command not found
./configure: line 3793: syntax error near unexpected token argtable2,' ./configure: line 3793: PKG_CHECK_MODULES(argtable2, argtable2 >= 2.12)'

could not open video codec

Hi there, i'm trying to use this on my server with little success; I'm not sure what is wrong but this is the error i'm getting when running from the command line:

Unsupported codec!

[REQUEST]: Update instructions for 14.04 and static compiles

I've created a docker image for building comskip, and I can get it to work for 15.04, but, when I tried to build a 14.04 docker image, the compile fails. It seems to be related to the version ffmpeg, I think. Just wondering if the 14.04 version has been tested in a while? I did get 14.04 to compile by pulling in my own ffmpeg and compiling/installing that as part of the process.

Also, I've tried to use the option to create a static binary. Just wondering if you have any samples that work for you in terms of creating a static binary. I tried for many hours to hand craft the various LIBS variables, but, in the end I threw in the towel :(

Thanks for all the great work... I've been running comskip donator version (using wine) for several years now... It's great to finally be running this on my Linux media server, natively.

Creation of Comskip for Mac OS Sierra

Instructions provided in readme re: Mac

I’m not a programmer, but I have technical skills and desire. Installed Xcode command-line tools and homebrew - see in red.

When I ran $ brew install autoconf automake libtool pkgconfig argtable ffmpeg sdl I got te error below. Can you advise further. I am fine running com skip manually on a file for now vs. integating into kmttg.

Permission To Package In Fedora

Hello,
I would like to package comskip in Fedora so it could be installed by simply typing dnf install comskip. Would you have any objections to this?

If you're okay with it, may you please select a license to use for your repository? I will do the rest of the work.

Thank you very much for developing comskip. It is a great piece of software.

Comskip binary not statically linked

I'm trying to distribute a standalone comskip binary with etv-comskip.

I just discovered that the comskip binary I compile is dynamically linked to libraries that won't necessarily exist on user boxes:

otool -L comskip
/opt/local/lib/libargtable2.0.dylib (compatibility version 2.0.0, current version 2.8.0)
/opt/local/lib/libavutil.54.dylib (compatibility version 54.0.0, current version 54.31.100)
/opt/local/lib/libavformat.56.dylib (compatibility version 56.0.0, current version 56.40.101)
/opt/local/lib/libavcodec.56.dylib (compatibility version 56.0.0, current version 56.60.100)
/usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib (compatibility version 1.0.0, current version 1225.1.1)
/opt/local/lib/libgcc/libgcc_s.1.dylib (compatibility version 1.0.0, current version 1.0.0)

This obviously breaks comskip for most people.

Is there a way to compile comskip into a standalone binary on OS X so that it doesn't rely on Macports or homebrew libraries? I hope I'm just missing a simple ./configure directive...

Error compiling on Ubuntu 14.04

I've followed the instructions in the readme for compiling on 14.04.

I ran into the same issue posted here:
https://github.com/erikkaashoek/Comskip/issues/36

However as mentioned in the comments there, compiling the most recent ffmpeg from scratch solved it.

Now that I was able to properly configure, I've run into this error while compiling:

"Unsupported codec!" error on latest comskip build

A build with the latest comskip commit throws an "Unsupported codec!" error on macOS with a standard macports compilation in the repo etv-comskip applied to standard EyeTV MPEG2 recordings.

Has something change in the configure or make settings that I must now include?

My Makefile hasn't changed from previously successful configurations. The comskip build command from that Makefile is:

	 ./autogen.sh && ./configure && make comskip comskip-gui

The comskip build is successful and yields a working binary.

This looks like some ffmpeg issue in either the ./configure or make commands. I've tried both these, without success:

make comskip comskip-gui
make INCLUDES="-I/opt/local/include" LIBS="-L/opt/local/lib" comskip comskip-gui

Here's the full error:

Comskip aborts for 1 show

I'm using Comskip in conjunction to EyeTV through etv-comskip supported by essandess.

It seems to be working flawlessly in nearly every recording except for 1 show in particular, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. When I navigate to the .eyetv file and ls -l I can see the .edl file does not exist.

Install process on Debian 8.4?

Hello! Could you add to the readme what the process would be on Debian 8.4? I'm having a terrible time trying to get it to install! Thanks in advance :)

Pre compiled Windows version / full step by step guide

Hi,
I have this setup and working on my raspberry Pi, however I am wanting to get it setup on my win 10 machine as well, I have tried to follow the guide in the readme, but ended up getting lost and ffmpeg would not compile, or when it did I could not understand what else I needed and where.
Therefore does anyone have a pre compiled version for win 10 for download OR is there a full step by step setup guide (YouTube etc) which would lead me to the correct answer?
Some of the issues I was facing :
Kept saying pkg_ not available (even though I installed it)
I did not understand the paths section, what am i doing here & why?
I downloaded msys2 but there was no .Bat for the minsys64 so got really lost.

Cheers for any help :)

Error compiling on 64 bit Win 10 due to undefined GWL_USERDATA

I got an error when building due to an error in the file video_out_dx.c

The following lines need to be adjusted as to use the new Ptr calls:
352 instance = (dx_instance_t *) GetWindowLong (hwnd, GWL_USERDATA);
544 SetWindowLong (instance->window, GWL_USERDATA, (LONG) instance);

Proposed Changes:
352 instance = (dx_instance_t *) GetWindowLongPtr (hwnd, GWLP_USERDATA);
544 SetWindowLongPtr (instance->window, GWLP_USERDATA, (LONG) instance);

Dose anyone meet this error? Thanks for your help!

HW Acceleration not Working (Nvidia)

Hi,

Running a build from current (Github) code, it doesn't seem like HW acceleration is working ... at least based on nvidia-smi on Linux, comskip is not calling cuda, and is providing no cuda load. Is this as expected? Yes, I did confirm that the configuration file (and command line, tried both) are enabling HW acceleration.

Thanks!

Build Failure, Ubuntu 17.04

FYI, linking fails on Ubuntu 17.04. In Makefile, change,
ffmpeg_LIBS = -lavutil-ffmpeg -lavformat-ffmpeg -lavcodec-ffmpeg

to,
ffmpeg_LIBS = -lavutil -lavformat -lavcodec

Then the build works fine! Make this change (selectively)?

Thanks!

Debugwindow closes at end of run

I'm just starting to get going with show specific tuning and i'm attempting to leverage the guide and I'm stuck at first base.

Per the very first line in the guide:

When ComSkip is started with the –w or --debugwindow switch a graphics window will appear. Once finished Comskip will NOT automatically exit but has to be closed manually by killing the console window or by hitting ESCAPE. Do not use the debug window when Comskip is called automatically from GBPVR or other PVR software.

However for me, every time it finishes the run, it closes the debug window immediately with messages like this:

53909 Frames Processed
Commercials were found.
Close window when done

I using the latest, built myself from the github repo on Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS

How can I actually get this to stay in the debug window?

Wrong version number in configure.ac

Sorry if I open another issue, but I think I've found the culprit of my previous issue #49.

Basically, I thought to be using an old version because comskip.h has:
#define PACKAGE_STRING " Comskip 0.81.093"

while configure.ac instead:

AC_INIT([Comskip], [0.81.089], [https://github.com/erikkaashoek/Comskip/issues])

So the two versions doesn't match and after compiling the binary I got "Comskip 0.81.089, made using ffmpeg" which led me thinking the I was using an older version.

Comskip appends asynchronous timestamps to some .edl files

I noticed this problem about 6 months ago but never investigated: Comskip appends weird timestamp information to the end of some .edl files. For example, here are example timestamps:

93526.47 93650.13 0
9493537.68 93779.19 0
94303.31 94423.60 0
94704.88 94915.89 0
0.67 120.15 0

This really messes with mp4chaps. etc-comskip translates this .edl into the following mp4 chapters and inserts them into iTunes file, which affects Video playback.

00:00:00.000 Beginning
25:58:57.680 Chapter 1 End
26:02:59.190 Chapter 2 Start
26:11:43.310 Chapter 2 End
26:13:43.600 Chapter 3 Start
26:18:24.880 Chapter 3 End
26:21:55.890 Chapter 4 Start
00:00:00.670 Chapter 4 End
00:02:00.150 Chapter 5 Start

I can provide the .mpg file for this example if needed.

Comskip infinite loops on some h264s

Comskip goes into an infinite loop on some h264s. This happens often enough that I've incorporated a gtimeout into my MarkCommercials script to kill off runaway comskip processes. This happens with both DOS (run under wine) and natively compiled donator versions.

I can provide a download of the .mpg if you'd like.

Option --output-filename not working

attempting to use the command

comskip --ini="myfile.ini" --output-filename="testing" my-video-file.mkv

does not produce testing.edl and testing.txt, it produces my-video-file.edl and my-video-file.txt

Or am I not understanding the purpose of this flag?

Workaround:

ln -s my-video-file.mkv testing.mkv
comskip -ini="myfile.ini" testing.mkv
[ -h testing.mkv ] && rm testing.mkv

buffer overflow on linux

incomingCommandLine[MAX_PATH] and tempstr[MAX_PATH] are too small for store command line options.

MAX_PATH will be replaced by ARG_MAX (or more platform compatible defined value).

large file support doesn't work in review mode

When trying to review comskip txt files with associated video files larger than 2GB on linux (raspbian jessie), it is unable to open the source video file for review. I end up with a black screen where the video files should be. The timeline loads and I am still able to navigate through the file...

I was able to fix the issue by enabling large file support in platform.c (#define _LARGEFILE_SOURCE) and changing fopen to fopen64. You will probably want to do this conditionally based on the architecture.
