A small utility to try and determine if ports are being filtered or blocked.

##Usage

prober.py [-h] (--server | --client) [--host HOST [HOST ...]] --ports
                 PORTS [PORTS ...]

A utility to test port blocking or utilization.

optional arguments:
  -h, --help            show this help message and exit
  --server              Act as a server.
  --client              Act as a client.
  --host HOST [HOST ...]
                        The target host.
  --ports PORTS [PORTS ...]
                        The target port(s).

pyportprober's Issues

Use command line flags for client/server execution

Merge the code into a single utility governed by execution flags.

Accept program arguments from command line

Let users pass command line options to the program, provide sane defaults.

Provide exception handling

Wrap dangerous methods in try/fail.

Make code DRY

Don't repeat yourself...

Fix timeouts/exception handling

If thread groups don't sync up with probes you will get excess errors. Consider threading?

Just have the client pass a list of ports

Client and server already exchange information ... the program is over complicated by trying to balance two original sets of ports.

Just have the client tell the server what it wants to test, and then deliver the results.

Create and send naughty packets

Try and send naughty packet payloads to trip filtration systems.

Provide timeout information and an aggregate run report

Provide timeouts for port probing, an aggregate report of what ports were open/blocked.

Too many open files

Find a way to overcome the 'too many open files' issue without having users manipulate their system settings.
