weblate's Issues

Can't start a new translation

What Happened

I considered translating the Calculator app and as my language wasn't there, I wanted to create a new translation but the button at the end saying "Start new translation" isn't clickable/tap-able.
(If possible I would like to be the one who started the translation in my language, instead of an admin created it for me and I just took from there.)

See the screenshot:
Screenshot_2021-07-26-06-17-06-503_com brave browser

Expected Behavior

I don't know, the next page the "Start a new translation" button is suppose to take me to.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open https://l10n.elementary.io/projects/calculator/calculator/
  2. Go to the end and try "Start new translation"
  3. The button is disabled

The source string is set to Norwegian Nynorsk

What Happened

スクリーンショット 2021-01-06 10 10 48

The source sentences in (maybe) all projects are recognized as Norwegian Nynorsk, not English. The actual source strings are English though.

Expected Behavior

The source sentences should be recognized as English as before.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open https://l10n.elementary.io/translate/website/index/ja/?checksum=97e2434c9c3d99a9&sort_by=-priority,position
  2. See it says the source string is Norwegian Nynorsk

Add stylesheet

Problem

Stylesheet is ready for translation for its repository structure but it's not added in our weblate, so they're not translated at all at the moment

Proposal

It would be great if we add stylesheet to our weblate and contributors can translate them.

But this is blocked because of the following issues at the moment:

You can't see the strings in its appdata at the moment, so adding it to our weblate now has less meaning until these issues are resolved.

Update the Italian translation

Problem

The Italian translation hasn't been updated for a long time and every part of the operating system has lost its linguistic coherence.

Proposal

I'm working on Weblate so that I can provide all the necessary suggestions, but it needs someone to update the Italian translation and check it regularly.

Ambiguous KU language code

It seems like weblate is complaining about us using the ku language code.

I think there is a way to ignore this alert, but I'm not sure if we want to. I'm opening this issue for the language team to figure it out.

en_US is now set as default language

en_US (written in the UI as English (United Stated)) is now the default language when it used to be simply en
This leads to the en language being now a thing. Our standard English language is the one from the US so we don't need en_US in elementary.
In practice, it means that weblate adds the en locale to all the LINGUAS files which then makes our software fail to build

Add Punjabi translations

What Happened

Hey, @ryonakano
APOLOGY:
First of all, sorry, but I couldn't find another way. I tried going to contributors profiles here and couldn't find any direct way to send a message.
REQUEST: Please add Punjabi translation file for (at least) the following apps:
AppCenter
Calendar
Browser
Website
And some other first-party ones. Thanks in advance.
And also tell me what is the best way to ask these types of questions/requests (new to github)?
Do any of you admins use Discord? Please send me the invite.

Texts are not translated consistently

What Happened

I just noticed that certain texts are not translated consistently across projects. I have summarized this here below once for the accent colors in German as an example.

English German (io.elementary.onboarding) German (switchboard-plug-pantheon-shell) German (https://elementary.io/de/brand)
Blueberry Heidelbeere Blaubeere Heidelbeer
Mint Minze Mintgrün Mint
Lime Gelbgrün Lindgrün Limette
Banana Banane Banane Banane
Orange Orange Orange Orange
Strawberry Erdbeere Erdbeere Erdbeere
Pink Rosa Rosa Bubblegum
Grape Weinrot Violett Weintraube
Cocoa Kakao Kakao Kakao
Slate Schiefer Schiefer Schiefer

Expected Behavior

I would expect that especially such prominent texts would be translated consistently.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Change your language to German
  2. Run io.elementary.onboarding
  3. Run switchboard-plug-pantheon-shell
  4. Open https://elementary.io/de/brand in your browser

Idea

Is it possible to link exactly the same texts across projects in Weblate so that they only need to be translated once?

Unify and update licenses

https://l10n.elementary.io/accounts/profile/#licenses

These are all the licenses used:

GNU General Public License v2.0 only GPL-2.0
GNU General Public License v3.0 only GPL-3.0
GNU General Public License v3.0 or later GPL-3.0
GNU Lesser General Public License v2.1 only LGPL-2.1
GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only LGPL-3.0
Proprietary

It would be nice to move the "GPLv2/3-only" stuff to "GPLv3-or-later"
and "LGPL-2.1" to "LGPL-3.0" (or preferably GPLv3-or-later)

Also, the Website is "MIT" https://github.com/elementary/website/blob/master/LICENSE.md and should not be in proprietary.
I don't think anything should be in proprietary because it creates a mess elementary/store#130

Almost of all components has an alert

What Happened

Screenshot from 2021-01-17 10-34-47

Screenshot from 2021-01-17 10-33-56

Almost of all components has an alert that says weblate cannot push the repository. This means the translations added by translators are not pushed to repositories maybe?

Expected Behavior

There should not be such an alert and translations should be always pushed to repositories.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Visit https://l10n.elementary.io/
  2. See almost of all components have the alert mark (:exclamation:)

Portuguese(pt) translation

I am the Portuguese translator, my nickname at Weblate is (@hugok) and have always kept elementary 100% translated. So far I have done 4,812 translations for this project. But what I wanted to highlight here is that Portuguese is a very complete language and it is spoken in several countries such as Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, East Timor among others. As such there are some differences in the way of speaking and writing among these countries, especially in Brazil. So I was going to ask that whenever someone asks to have permissions to save translations in Weblate, that they pay attention to the language code, because Portuguese is (pt) and Brazilian Portuguese is (pt_BR). I have seen many suggestions by Brazilians in the translation of the Portuguese which is not correct. I have maintained the Portuguese translation with quality and adapted to Portuguese users (Portugal) and as such I would not like to see Brazilians messing up that same translation.

I hope there is some control of who is responsible for adding translators so that the translations and the work of those who do them are not harmed.

Your beloved Portuguese(pt) translation contributor,

Hugo Carvalho aka hugok
