Can't reproduce the compile error on my system.
But the API for wrapping C in python3 is different from python2, so can't take the same wrapper code anyway. I'd limit to python2 for now and add an adapted wrapper file for python3 later.

Yeah I think it might also be to do with (i) a gcc compiler on mac that isn't pointing to clang.
This user had additional issues with their conda installation of python that even after compilation had issues running… Anyway, I'll work through and maybe send some modifications. Thanks Carl!
