Certain feeds not updating

I've noticed that the feeds I add from Substack pull in 20 items initially, but then never update. (I am running the update script manually.) Is there some kind of, "hey, actually check this" setting I'm missing, or is this an issue with Substack somehow? Their RSS feeds seem correctly formatted.

Format of news

Hey,

Thank you for the program. It is very useful for reading RSS in Gnus. I am wondering is it possible to pre-format news. For example, right now the link to the article is shown by bold in the head of news. I would like to put this link in the end of news (like in gwene). Also, i would like to format authors name and so on.. Could you help me in this? I am not very good in programming but i think i could do this if you tell me where to look.
