ifcomp11's Issues

give the man something to do

Original report by Doug Orleans (Bitbucket: dougo, GitHub: dougo).

If you leave the man without giving him the knife, and then come back, he's still just standing there. He should be looking at the building stones or foundation or something. (If it's an interesting enough message, add it to AMUSING?)

allow talking to people

Original report by Doug Orleans (Bitbucket: dougo, GitHub: dougo).

Everyone wants to TALK TO GREENGROCER and TALK TO MAN and SAY HELLO. Also ASK/TELL them ABOUT stuff. At the very least say "you don't need to talk/ask in this story."

Release checklist

Original report by Doug Orleans (Bitbucket: dougo, GitHub: dougo).

Before uploading the final release to the comp website:

  • Update the release number
  • Update the ABOUT text
  • Add a CREDITS command with beta-tester pseudonyms
  • Comment out "release with source text"

handle exiting

Original report by Doug Orleans (Bitbucket: dougo, GitHub: dougo).

OUT should say something better than this:

//[You're not inside something. To leave this location, try a direction or "out".]//

clarify setting

Original report by Doug Orleans (Bitbucket: dougo, GitHub: dougo).

The setting was meant to be vaguely post-medieval, or fairy-tale-ish, but Iain at first thought it was modern-era, partly because of "Dad and Mom". Maybe add some more details to make it more clear.

go back to default full room descriptions

Original report by Doug Orleans (Bitbucket: dougo, GitHub: dougo).

Use full room descriptions by default, not brief. Brendan ran into problems not noticing the back door of the chapel in the first desc, and then not realizing it wasn't showing the full desc on later entries (because of the sentence about the greengrocer). Probably a good reason that full descs are now the default in I7...

Add cover art

Original report by Doug Orleans (Bitbucket: dougo, GitHub: dougo).

It would be nice to have non-generic cover art, e.g. a Creative Commons photo with the story title superimposed.

disable GROCER, HELLO

Original report by Doug Orleans (Bitbucket: dougo, GitHub: dougo).

GROCER, HELLO prints "You speak." GROCER, TAKE CRANBERRIES" prints "[The cranberries have better things to do.]" These should instead be mistakes ("[You don't need to converse in this story.]"), i.e. not advance the clock.

PUT PEN IN HAT should work

Original report by Doug Orleans (Bitbucket: dougo, GitHub: dougo).

Even though the hat is a container, PUT PEN IN HAT should just do the feather attachment (like PUT PEN ON HAT does now). Or maybe only if the hat is being worn?

handle GET TIME

Original report by Doug Orleans (Bitbucket: dougo, GitHub: dougo).

GET TIME shouldn't try to lift the sundial. And you shouldn't be able to do anything else to time besides examine, check, and get.

handle XYZZY

Original report by Doug Orleans (Bitbucket: dougo, GitHub: dougo).

Idea: have XYZZY put you to sleep until late afternoon, so you can more easily see the go-home-early ending.
