In normal mode I would want to see the char underneath the caret.

Hmm, the screenshot does not clearly show what I mean.
But looking at the "W" should be enough to give you a hint.

A separate repository is needed for vim installation with package managers. This should probably be generated with some sort of CI automation.

There are a few missing highlights in the Vim colorscheme:

• Sign column
• Markers
• Folding
• Autocomplete popup
• ... more?

The window frame is fairly indistinguishable from the main content. Is this something you can consider changing?

The current dark theme has a bit too much contrast which makes it unpleasant to use.
