These are my workarounds
CENTOS: Connect directly to non-default instance
Works on CentOS with pymssql compiled from source
Does not work on Ubuntu (pymssql 1.0.2), which just connects to the default one.
UBUNTU: Connect to non-default instance by entry in ~/.freetds.conf
Works on Ubuntu (pymssql 1.0.2) provided ~/.freetds.conf configured
Does not work on CentOS (pymssql 1.1), which gives InterfaceError
[ndinstance]
host = db.example.xom
instance = non_default_instance
