initiative's Issues

Establish a membership/registration mechanism

As we have proposed in #1 , to become a member, one would have to explicitly agree to the terms of the collaboration. One we have a enacted these terms, we might want a mechanism for people to register as members of the initiative.

A simple mechanism would be to have an issue template in this repo, that people can click and complete. That issue template would simply be saying something like: "I accept the terms ...." and one maintainer would then add that person to the github team "member".

Build roadmap

We need a draft of a roadmap, visually showing what has been implemented, what needs to be implemented.

Write a manifest for the Initiative

I'm thinking we can have a statement describing the initiative and the guidelines for collaborators. It should include at least the following points:

  • Develop high quality scientific software
  • Commitment to openness, both in terms of projects and software
  • Positive and welcoming collaborative environment
  • Scientific goal is to develop tools for joint forward simulation of various probes, in a differentiable framework for efficient inference

@changhoonhahn what do you think?

Build contribution guidelines for DUI projects

I propose to model our contributions guideline on the All Contributors specifications:
https://allcontributors.org/
This implies recognizing and advertising all contributions to a project, even ones without actual code commits.

What I'm thinking is that anyone who has contributed can be recognized as a contributor, even if they are not members. Only except if they breach the code of conduct, in which case they are banned from all DUI channels.

Contributors would be at least acknowledged in an associated paper. Based on the amount of contribution, the leads of a project could decide to offer authorship to contributors, but only up to the lower (3rd) authorship tier, as an incentive for people to become members.
