"The accent on the uppercase 'E' in the title is interesting – I thought that uppercase characters typically lacked diacritical marks in French"

• this is particularly interesting since this e is just a shortened form of ex in Latin which usually has a macron and not an accent grave as we see on the title page. there are plenty of instances where capitals take accents in French though it's definitely optional.

ex on wiktionary - "Sometimes apocopated with compensatory lengthening as ē. In cases where the following ablative noun begins with a vowel or h, only ex is used. Besides that, there are no rules for the use of either ē or ex, with both forms even used in the same sentence (e.g. "qui ex corporum vinculis tamquam e carcere evolaverunt”, Cicero, Republic 6, 14)."

note on the word apocopated (lacking a final sound or syllable) : From Latin apocopātus (“cut off”), from Ancient Greek ἀποκόπτω (apokóptō, “cut off”).

I'm unsure how to translate this line, specifically the section italicised:

I can translate this phrase word for word literally but it doesn't quite make sense to me:

en faveur d’un âge qu’on veut mettre de bonne heure à portée de profiter de leurs leçons
in favour of an age that one wants to put good time to reach profit from their lessons.
