6) Optional goody: Small improvement of your choice
For a small amount of bonus points, you can implement a small front end or back end improvement to our code base, such as increasing our test coverage or modernizing some of the front end code (converting class components to functional components, converting some components to Typescript, etc.). Note that this is optional and should be of a small scope
1) Feature: New design for login/signup pages
We’ve received new specs from our designer. Please implement the design for the login and signup pages, and make it mobile responsive. The design spec and needed assets are available in this zip folder. The spec may need a bit of adapting, so please use your best judgement.
Please include a couple of screenshots in the description when making this PR to showcase the styling you've done.
2) Refactor: Authentication
We’re currently storing tokens in localStorage, and would like to move to storing them in httpOnly cookies to improve security.
As an optional stretch goal, you can implement CSRF tokens as well.
4) Feature - Improve sockets
We currently have sockets implemented, but would like to improve how we do so. We know our sockets are not efficient, and that they have poor security. Please address these issues, as well as make any other improvements as you see fit.
3) Bug fix: Sending messages
We have some code in place for sending messages in existing chats, but it is not working as expected - there are issues related to sending messages as well as displaying messages, and there are security issues related to sending messages. Please look into this and resolve any bugs you find.
5) Feature - Implement a read status for messages
We want to store a status for each message reflecting if it has been read by the recipient, and display how many unread messages there are on the front end.
You can reference the spec in this zip folder for how to display the unread messages count. Please include a screenshot in your PR description showing your updated UI.
