I work on these in my own time and take no donations for their continuation - I write and support them because I like doing so. For this reason, changes may be slow to be made but I will always try and provide support in the WordPress.org forums as quickly as I can. Indeed, that's where all support should be directed. Investigate YUI CSS compressor

Look at the YUI compressor port code to see what I can use.

Look at use of important comments /*! ... */

Remove blocks (such as @media blocks) with empty rules

Come up with a better name

CompreSS puts too much emphasis on the "SS" the end, which is a rather problematic set of letters. And it generally sucks.

Need to come up with something more suitable.

Remove units for zero value items

e.g. border: 0px; to border: 0;

Quoted unquotable attribute selectors should get unquoted

e.g. from col[class*="col-"] to col[class*=col-]

Shorten background: none & background: transparent

Shorten to background:0 0

Color replacement

Although I compress hex values there are further improvements to be made by...

1. Replace hex with color names, if shorter
2. Replace colour names with hex, if shorter
3. All of the above, but with decimal RGB equivalents. In this case, I'll convert to hex first before running it through steps 1 and 2.
4. I also need to consider RGBA definitions. In this case, I'll convert them to hex versions. Again, I'll do this before steps 1 and 2.

Shorten padding and margin properties

e.g. from margin: 3px 2.1em 3px 2.1em to margin:3px 2.1em

ms unit compression

For example, from 100ms to .1s

Because some smaller ones will work and some won't (e.g. 10ms to 0.1s will, but not 11ms), it will be best to detect, reduce and then see if it benefitted before making final changes.

Shorten double colon (CSS3) pseudo-elements

Shortable double colon (CSS3) pseudo-elements are now shortened to single colon (CSS2): from ::after to :after.
