One option might be to include some kind of auth token in the DevTools URI (either just the backend API or also the frontend - which we can read it and use it to connect to the server).
Extensions in iframes on the same origin might be able to walk up to the parent (window.parent) though, so it may be worth putting the sandbox attribute to control what they can do (if I understand the docs correctly, this effectively treats them as a different origin).
