gc-loader's Issues

Star Fox Adventures - Voice Acting / Background music Absent

Hey there! I recently installed the GC loader pnp into my system about a month ago at this point, I've played through luigis mansion and super mario sunshine flawlessly without issue.

But recently I tried Star fox adventures and the voice acting as well as background music are completely absent. I'm not sure if this is either an issue with the loader or swiss, I know Star fox utilizes audio streaming which the loader says it supports but I've yet to fix the problem. I have the most recent Swiss build as well as the latest firmware build as well if that helps!

I'm curious if this was a known issue or if anyone else has ran into the same issue? Thanks in advance!✌

Updater should ask for user to confirm FW write if current FW version matches FW to be flashed

I discovered after I updated my GCLoader to 1.1.2 that if I re-ran the updater, it would re-flash 1.1.2 even though it matched the firmware I currently had on the device. This struck me as a bit odd since most devices I've used will either refuse to flash the same version or they will prompt the user to confirm before re-writing the same firmware version to the device. My feeling is the GCLoader updater should exhibit one of the below behaviors instead:

  • If FW version to be flashed matches current, inform the user that both versions match. Exit to menu/boot.iso.
  • If FW version to be flashed matches current, inform the user that both versions match; prompt the user to confirm they still want to flash. If so, flash it. If not, exit to menu/boot.iso.

This is a minor nit, so feel free to kick the can down the road. Thanks to all of the contributors on this project for their hard work!

Distorted sound that goes away on its own on 1.1.2

Hi,

I had this issue on 1.1.0 as well (when I got my GC-Loader) but on 1.1.2 this issue is supposed to be fixed according to "Fixed random corrupted audiostreaming sound".

So... I encounter the issue where on games that doesn't necessarily have audiostreaming (Like Mario Kart Double Dash, Mario Party or Rogue Squadron II) there are some instances, (not very often though) that the audio gets distorted for a short period of 3-4 seconds. After that it fixes itself and everything sounds normal again. The volume of this distortion isn't louder than the rest of the audio and it doesn't happen on a specific part of the game every time.

It sounds like a "digital" kind of distortion, I don't know how else to describe it... but it has occured on different games and it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the audio streaming issues that were known on earlier firmwares.

The ISOs are Redump and I also have Carby,
The SDs I'm using are Kingston 512GB and 256GB.

Anyone else encountered something like this?

GCLoader HW2 & mini sd problem

i got that one, first i tested it, only boot.iso, then i loaded games, played a bit. Next play session it wont boot into it, i tried to reformat it and retry, now it wont even work once

GCLoader pcb switches

Not really an issue, but what do those 4 little white switches do on the pcb? I've looked everywhere for info but can't seem to find any other than one of them supposedly is a limiter for the read speed of the iso files. Any information you can give me would be much appreciated.

HW2 Compatibility Issue

Just got and installed my GC Loader HW2 today and I can't update. It seems to think that firmware "2.0.0.GCLOADER_HW2" is higher than "2.0.1.BETA" perhaps? When I launch the update it just shows the two top lines that display the update and the current detected firmware, but does not give the prompt of press A to start update process. However I still have a notification that a new firmware is present every time I boot up and launch into Swiss. Any suggestions?

GC Loader stopped working after FW update to 2.0 beta

Hi, my GC Loader stopped working after I updated the fw to 2.0 (it was initially 1.12 when i got it from aliexpress). Now all I see is a red error message "the disc could not be read" as soon as I switch on the console. Before that, I was able to boot to Swiss and browse folders, however it wouldn't boot isos from the same sdhc card, saying this - "Disc does not contain valid word at 0x1C".
Now I have no clue how to fix this..

Distorted Audio in 1.0.0

Thanks for the great product. I've actually spent the past 2-3 years searching for NOS GCN ODEs, so when I found your thread on gc-forever I was so excited by the prospect of you shipping. What a nice surprise that you were able to partner with Dan to launch the GC-Loader! I'm loving it so far and I've only had it installed ~24 hours.

I updated GC-Loader tonight to 1.0.0 and played a few games. Of the three I played, I had two instances of glitchy background music where the audio was distorted and noisy for a brief period, but overall effects and background music sounded fine throughout the rest of the games' sessions. The 3rd game, Chibi Robo, exhibited no issues during my ~30 minutes of play.

In Wave Race - Blue Storm (USA), I have been able to reproduce this between cold boot at the character select screen of the "Free Ride" mode. The first time I encountered it was while scrolling from the 1st character to the 2nd character (David Mariner) in the list; the initial playback of his background music was corrupted, but after changing to another character and back, subsequent playback of the audio was fine. After turning the system off and back on, booting into the game, and returning to that screen, it took me a minute or so to reproduce the distortion by erratically cycling through characters.

The other affected game was Super Monkey Ball (USA) which had glitched audio after completing the 10 beginner levels when it plays a celebratory sequence. I've not yet had a chance to attempt to replicate this instance. However, the corruption in the audio was similar in nature to that found in Wave Race.

DOL-001
NTSC Revision 1.1
GCVideo Dual v2.4b installed
Connected to OSSC through Insurrection RGB SCART cable.
Samsung 128GB (U3) microSD card

Swiss r756 was used to boot all titles
All ISOs were trimmed with NKit v1.4 and have been verified to be known good dumps against a popular database.

I only just installed the GC-Loader late last night, so I hadn't put much time in on the previous version and only played these 3 games tonight. I'll update this issue if I encounter others.

Slow down Issues using HW1 as patch device on Swiss

I noticed since using the HW1 gcloader as the patch device with Swiss since using 2.0 and later (2.01) that the patching sequence takes quite a long time. It seems this also happened on HW2 models, but then was addressed in a Swiss update which seemed to solve it.. I don't know if this is an issue with the gcloader firmware or if it is a Swiss issue for the HW1 version though. Any ideas?

GCLoader doesn't reset back to boot.iso

Hey, so I'm having an issues with GCLoader not resetting back to boot.iso when using the in game reset option of swiss, the igr.dol seems to work okay but depending on the game it's hit or miss. But the soft reset option to reboot the system gives me an error that makes me have to power cycle the system, and my bios and boot.iso are the same region. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

GCLoader Force Resolution doesn't work for 240p

Forcing 240p doesn't work through swiss on items in the GCLoader but work perfectly fine when loaded through a memory card. For example, GBI loaded as 240p works great from the SD Card but loading Mario Kart DD as 240p from the GCLoader does not.

My GCVideo still shows the resolution as something like 640x240 which is double the expected horizontal resolution. This seems to cause my CRTs to treat this as 480i instead of 240p like when loaded through other means.

X-Men Legends

It's been reported that when GC-Loader directly boots X-Men Legends (as boot.iso), when you get to where Mystique is pretending to be cyclops, the game freezes and says an error occurred and to power off and look at the manual for support. Swiss works around this GC-Loader bug but the bug still exists in GC-Loader.

Bricked GC loader V.07 HW1 2020

Hey, I have a GC loader that bricked itself after an update. It doesnt see it in swiss at all. Can it be reprogrammed with a pc? I think it's read because it a serial on the rear and says GC Loader, but I did get it with a gamecube so i'm not 100% sure.

Any advice?

Mario party unable to load minigames

Was running into audio issues in Mario party and enabled the slower read mode by flipping dip switch 4. Now audio is fine but Mario party 6 will stop working after a few rounds. Screen goes black when loading into a mini game. Verified redump iso.

Tales of Symphonia, freeze/hang on cutscene

This bug has been documented here. It can occur when GCLoader boots the game directly. A recent version of Swiss has resolved this issue (while Boot with IPL is disabled), but the issue still exists within GCLoader.

Distorted Audio in 1.0.1

Hi, sorry for my english. Thanks for the great product

In Ace Golf (Europe), sometimes when the ball is on the green, audio is distorted. Audio returns to normal when a new music started. There is random.

In Extrême G3 (US), there is the same bug in the race.

Perhaps, audio data is not loaded correctly randomly...

Error code on boot

I’ve been using my GC Loader now for about 2 months and absolutely loving it. However booting it up this morning I was greeted with an error code “Exception (DSI) occurred!” and haven’t had any luck trying to resolve the situation. I’ve tried different firmware and formatting the SD card but run into the exact same error. At this point I’m thinking it must be some kind of hardware issue, any suggestions?

here’s an image of the full log displayed if it helps (apologies for the poor quality, I only have access to a CRT at the moment)

Crash freeze + issues SW Clone Wars

Hello, I want to report several grave issues with the title: Star Wars Clone Wars Ger/EU [GSXD64/GSXP64]

The issues are sorted by their seriousness from low to high.

Video jitter:
Startup at Clone Wars Logo video mode change and jitter distortion. This happens via CVBS, SCART RGB and GCplug digital out over hdmi.
Fix via ingame reset, after reset game does not show jitter.

Audio distortion:
Audio distortion noticeable as soon as dolby surround logo shows up.
Audio distortion noticeable in menu (Campaign/Options/Multiplayer) regardless of mono/stereo/surround/dolby pro logic 2.
Audio distortion sporadic noticeable during any mission up to 3 minutes.

Crash/Freeze:
First hard freeze after successfull finishing mission "Evacuation of Rhen Var", upon hitting continue (replicable). If selecting continue console freezes and even pressing reset does not help, only power cycling console helps.

Second hard freeze after successfull finishing mission "Battle for Kashyyyk", upon hitting continue (replicable). If selecting continue console freezes and even pressing reset does not help, only power cycling console helps.

I have noticed that the freezes correspond with two cutscene videos which should play after mission success and continuing on with game.
These cutscenes are:
Raxus Prime Intro
Return to Rhen Var

I was able to replicate all issues with German and Europe Version on 3 different PAL DOL 001 gamecubes with 3 different gcloader pnps, updated to current fw 1.1.0. The german iso used was of my own dump which checks out with the known md5 checksum on redump, the EU version is web loaded but also checks out with redump md5.

The used micro sd card is a sandisk 64GB ultra class 1 UHS, formatted to fat 32. Setting in swiss to emulate read spead for this particular game did show no changes.

Thank you, if there is something I can test, pls let me know.

Error after update to FW 2.0.0 (not beta)

Today I updated the FW from 2.0.0 beta to 2.0.0 but then got error after rebooting saying:
An error has occured.

Turn the power OFF and check the NINTENDO GAMECUBE Instruction Booklet for further instructions.

Feature Request: Boot From Filesystem

it'd be useful for development purposes if the firmware did

  1. check boot.iso
  2. check sys/main.dol+apploader.img (same layout as e.g. Dolphin)
  3. boot IPL

so I can have an extracted game filesystem to perform modifications on without having to boot Swiss

gcloader 2.0.0 firmware

I noticed in the change log for the new swiss version that gcloader 2.0.0 support is mentioned, I'm assuming that implies a new version of the firmware will drop at some point if not side by side? Not really an issue as much as it is a question about a possible release date or time frame as I love my gc loader and the possibility of new or upcoming features is exciting to me. Thank-you for all of your hard work and hope to hear from you soon.

Swiss not loading

The disc could not be read error appears. The GC loader has two red lights on? I have a Sandisk Ultra Plus Micro SD card of 128GB. It is formatted to Fat32. I have a ntscUSA gamecube, so I used that iso. I renamed it boot. I don't know what's wrong

GL Loader 2.0 Beta

I flashed this fw to my gcloader, was told to shut down and restart to complete and now my system refuses to boot while the GC Loader is installed. How can I re-flash back to 1.1.2?

2GB SD Card Support

Hello,

I'm using a GCLoader PNP. It only reports a disc in the drive if I put an SD card in it that is 4GB or higher.

I'd like to use a smaller SD card I have (2GB), because I keep all my content on a larger card attached to serial port 2 (via an SD2SP2), so the SD card in the GCLoader just has Swiss on it.

Is the 4GB minimum a hard limit? Or could I recompile and flash the firmware to allow 2GB cards?

Ability to transfer games from SD Gecko to GC Loader

It's not really an issue, but would it be possible to add in the ability to transfer games from my SD Gecko to the sd card on the GC Loader? I know that swiss has issues saving the config files to it at the time so maybe while patching that could also make it where you can copy to and from the GC Loader. Thanks for your time and contributions to to Gamecube scene.

Game seems to be incompatible

I have a copy of Midway Arcade Treasures 3 that loads fine and even works in the menu selection, but when I select a game it crashes and gives me the typical gamecube error message about powering it off. Any help you can give me would be much appreciated as this game has one of my favourite racing games on it. Thank-you in advance.

Update 2.0.1 crashed my GC

I bought one of your GC Loaders once i booted asked for update so I proceded to update to v2.0.1 after that GC throw error saying that I should go to instruction manual. Could you provide some guide step to downgrade version of firmware or fix it?

Sound dropping out in 1.1.2

I just installed a GC Loader on my DOL-001 US-NTSC console.

I'm using a GC HD plug and play by eon for audio/video via HDMI.

I noticed when playing any game now (Rogue Squadron 2, Auto Modellista, Disney Skate to new a few) the audio is dropping out every 30 seconds for 2-5 seconds.

I just updated my GC Loader to 1.1.2 and am using Swiss v0.5r1154.

Apologies if this is a Swiss problem, I am not sure.

I was using an older version of Swiss burned to a mini-DVD with an SD card via sd2sp2 and didn't have issues with these same games.

Thanks!

GcLoader documentation

Hi,

I feel like there could be more documentation available. How to use gcloader without Swiss? How to setup disc swapping etc.
What do the DIP switches do? It is a bit scattered around so maybe an idea to create a central wiki? I can start something up if you are interested @danielkraak .

Feature request - Use controller buttons to start other boot.dol

Should it be possible to add the feature from picoboot, to use a controller button to start a certain game while booting?
Example:
I don't have a lot of GC-games and most of all, I play Mario Kart Double Dash. So I want to have Mario Kart Double Dash as my boot.dol. Let's say I occasionally play Super Mario Sunshine. So I could boot into Super Mario Sunshine while pressing A-button during boot. On another day, I have friends comming over and they want to chose a game? Then I could press X during boot to boot into swiss-gc.
