asperitas

Asperitas is a full stack reddit clone that I wrote to learn more about Node.js, React, and NoSQL databases. The name asperitas comes from a type of cloud.

Installation

Prerequisites

• node
• npm
• mongodb

1. Clone this repository

2. Install server dependencies

   $ cd server
   $ npm install

3. Install client dependencies

   $ cd client
   $ npm install

Run the app

1. Start mongodb locally

   $ mongod

2. Start the server

   $ cd server
   $ npm start

3. Start the client

   $ cd client
   $ npm start

4. Browse to http://localhost:3000/

Testing

Server

Make sure mongodb is running before testing the server.

$ cd server
$ npm test

Client

$ cd client
$ npm test

asperitas's Issues

"failed to fetch" at every procedure.

I ran the site as it's said, it ran but everytime I try to post a link it prompts "failed to fetch".
please help.

Non-Static Subs

Users should be able to create subs on their own (configurable) so either the admin/s or user/s can create new subs.

Add URL Previews

First off: Great project! This looks like the perfect alternative (self-hosted) for Reddit. Would love to contribute ASAP I have time! Also great stack.

I think URL Previews would be a good feature to implement.!

Pagination

there need pagination for HomeSection and comments.

docker instance

WOuld be nice to havef a docker instance I can install

You can "create" a sub by changing HTML form values

Hi. If you change the value of category dropdown item in your browsers while creating a post, the post is submitted to that custom category. There should be some back-end check that the category exists.

How add global admin?

I check platform, but not find methods of global admin. Does it support it?

Allow text posts

Allow text posts instead of only link posts.

No ability to reset passwords

Please add an email field and include the ability to reset passwords. I really want to use this to create a site for OpenNIC but the lack of ability to reset passwords is an absolute deal breaker. Any serious site needs this ability. Please add it and I will probably use your project for creating sites within OpenNIC.
