Feature Request: Use KDE/Qt/Kdialog for uploading files

When using the included browser (or any other browser/program) the system appears to utilize the GTK+ File Picker.

While this is usable, it lacks many features (such as thumbnail view) and I feel we would be better served by swapping over to the KDE/Qt/kdialog file picker which is much, much better.

This might be an issue with cutefish-session rather than filemanager, I'm not exactly sure where to place this.

File manager is completely transparent and looks terrible

Add screenshots in README

Add screenshots in README file for each UI program. At least 1-2 screens.

It very important for promotion. When i go to your repos, i want see what is it, but i see only text

I looking for good DE for my OS, but i can't install absolutely every project for test it,
then i just leave when i not see screenshots. If you will add screenshots, all people will have more interest to your project, will star it and watch updates

Add support for protocole like samba

It would be nice to add samba protocole in this app, i use mys NAS with samba everyday and with this file manager it would render so nice

Transperent

In the cutefish os the filemanager is fully transparent its hard to see

Add blur just like settings app

Blur on the sidebar will look cool!

Will not refresh after deleting files

operate:

Open filemanager to delete a file, and the file will exist in the recycle bin at this time.
Open the recycle bin and empty the recycle bin in the function button at the bottom right corner of the dock or filemanager.

Phenomenon: The recycle bin in the dock is already emptied. Use the ls -la command to view the recycle bin and no files can be seen, but the file can still be seen in the filemanager, even the deleted files can still be seen in the file manager.
Guess: This problem may be caused by not refreshing the directory after performing the emptying operation

No progress window for operations

I was copying files over from a usb drive and noticed that there seemed to be no indicator of how far the operation had progressed.
I had no idea when it completed and had to assume it was done.

I feel like there should be some sort of indicator that allows you to check the progress of file operations. along with the ability to cancel an operation which right now cannot be done to my knowledge.

Optical disks have no icon on filemanager's sidebar

Option to make `.desktop`, `.AppImage` files executable

Nautilus and dolphin has a toggle to make an app executable.

Currently if you click on a script or .desktop file then it open's it in text editor.

Segfault on startup

cutefish-filemanager segfauls immediately on startup.

I'm using ArchLinux with swaywm, on amd64, Linux 5.15.6-arch2-1 GNU/Linux.
Latest version from master + dependencies from master.

Utilize ffmpegthumbs or ffmpegthumbnailer for thumbnails for video files

I think it would be a good idea if we could have thumbnails in the file manager for video files, especially mp4, webm, and mkv files that I interact with a lot.

KDE has one solution for this: ffmpegthumbs. Other desktops can use "ffmpegthumbnailer" to get thumbnails in their respective file manager. The solution used by both of these are the same, they pass a video file through ffmpeg to create the thumbnail.

If we could reuse the same solution it would be great! From what I understand from the code, it seems that it is using its own thumbnailer built into the file manager and not any third party ones.

File manager does not access external drives.

Hi, I very recently installed Cutefish OS. I love the front user interface design, refreshing. Anyway, I actually can't open external drives using the natively installed File Manager. I can't do much about those external drives actually, I only see them popping whenever I plug one.

I'm on my way to figuring out how to interact with external drives through Term commands so maybe I'll discover a way to get around this issue. As you may have figured, I only have this OS installed because I want to learn Term commands within a nice looking environment. Sadly, I wasn't aware of the worrying situation this project seems to be stuck in before actually installing Cutefish.

Anyway, the bottom-question-line of this post is just to ask : Hey people, am I missing something important like a driver or a special command, for example ? Or is it an issue related to the fact that the devs may have left this whole project pending for an undetermined time duration ?

File manager crashes after trying to open in Terminal

It happens both in desktop and file manager. When I open the file manager through terminal, it throws a segmentation fault after choosing "Open in Terminal" in the right mouse button menu.

After more than ten hours of continuous use, the desktop background disappears

Symptom:After more than ten hours of use, the desktop background disappears, the desktop files disappear, and the right mouse button on the desktop cannot pop up the menu. After restarting, it will return to normal, and it will reappear after a period of use.

Feature Request: Bookmarks

Thanks for the great desktop, happy to beta test!

I'd really like to see bookmarks in the file manager, to be able to quickly access a folder. I have them in the gtk filepicker which is used (for which I'll make a separate issue), but bookmarks would be very useful!

Support ascending and descending file sorting

Currently I can only sort ascending for files and folders, but It would be good if I can sort descending too, as for sorting by date I need latest files first.

It could be implemented by adding a upward or downward arrow next to the sorting selection indication the type of sorting, ascending means upward arrow and descending means downward arrow.

No right click actions on the left sitebar

Can the right click actions be enabled in the left sidebar of the file manager?

alternative file manager with menu always visible

Dear developer team, as i read the users comments about cutefish on other sites i think many people want a global menu like in OSX. As this menu depends on the OSX Finder, we would need something similar to finder. Luckily there is a fork of PCMANFM on GITHUB: https://github.com/mszoek/filer This file manager shows it's menu even if it has no window open. Would you mind having a look at it and maybe try to add it to Cutefish OS?

No method to eject an external drive?

I can't find any method to eject an external drive. right clicking on sidebar items doesn't do anything. the only method is to do an unsafe mount. also known as just yank the drive out without unmounting. This is NOT good and should NEVER be the only option.

An option to eject and unmount a device would be greatly appreciated
